Over this whole Barba thing already, especially the 'poor Barba needs help crap', turns out his just another spoilt, overpaid twat.

Can't help but think there's plenty of self interest in Greenburg's actions as well, the 'super administrator' thinking future job prospects. He's painted himself into a corner here. What his done for Barba the Daly M superstar, he now has to do for the no name reserve grader too.

The reality is that sometimes there a footy players who are simply genuine dickheads beyond help. Now, according to the philosophy of Greenberg, the are all 'sick' and need our help. BULLSHIT!

you sir have really no idea what youre talking about

Reality is none of us do. Greenberg called a press conference to tell everyone that he couldn't tell people anything. So far there has been plenty of speculation as to what may or may not have happened but I think anyone who is saying Greenberg has handled it well is getting way too far ahead of themselves. I don't feel sorry for Barba at this stage because I still have no idea what he has done or what the issues are. At the same time, I'm not about to judge or disparage him for the same reason.

so he`s been on the piss and punting. why didn`t Greenberg just come out and say that and save all the drama.

Because it's not as simple as that is it. You obviously haven't been through a severe relationship breakdown. Mentally you tend to go to extreme's in a lot of things you do, without actually dealing with the area's of your life that are making you go down that path.

Seriously I have so much trouble believing this guy hung out with the Epic Bender Crew (pathetic name) for weeks partying, getting tats etc and he was only on the drink. Greeny probably saw the comedown in Benny's tears and made the call to stand him down. This guy should not be allowed anywhere near the EBC again!!

Only a bunch of f**ktards would give themselves a name like that.

But yeh, only on the drink ? Not likely and my guess is this is what it's all about.

I think there are some reasons why Greenberg has handled this well. Firstly, obviously Ben's had some behavioural issues, but he's deflected those onto getting him help - turned it from a potential scandal to feeling sorry for the bloke. Meanwhile he's trying to maintain Ben and his family's privacy as much as possible. It can't be easy standing down your star player, either.

Obviously there's still lots to come out, but for now I'd back Greenberg as the shrewd operator he is. It's disappointing that the public feels the need to know every minute detail about shit like this.

Is it disappointing that we as fans would like to know why the codes star player has been stood down ?

He had to call a press conference. Could you imagine the media reaction if they released a statement saying the stood him down and that was it. I don't think it could be done any other way.

I also think the press conference helped in stopping media speculation about whether he had done anything illegal as Greenberg was quite strong in saying that he hadn't

As an aside, and Im not suggesting this is anything to do with Barba.

This could become the new "norm", a pre-emptive strike by clubs prior to a major incident coming to light, whereby a club makes a press release that implies the player has issues.

Instead of outrage and hand wringing, its sympathy and concern.

I dont have any sympathy for him really, any footy player who thinks hanging out with the epic bender crew is a good idea is obviously an idiot.

Breaking up with your missus and being scattered from the weekends bender and being doing yourself on the pokies are fairly common problems.

Wonder if he'll get an apology from Nine... Bet he doesn't

I noticed that night that they didn't even talk about Barba in the sports section, I guess they knew they f**ked up when Wally started talking shit earlier in the day.

Gyngell would just say it never happened.

Lol. Another case of an assumption being the mother of a f*ck up.

Barba will be fine.
The money lost to the punt will come back once sells his 'struggle' to ACA.

That's the ticket - if at first you f**k it up - get a current affairs program to pick up the tab.

That's a motto we can all live by.

Does your work get televised every week?
Are you on the back page of the paper if you get kicked out of a pub on a Saturday night?
They are both tough situations on the individual, but very different circumstances requiring different actions.

I think a contributing factor is the clubs having a healthy fear of the NRL these days, which I believe is somewhat important if we consider the root causes of some of the turmoil in other codes.
