No, some Tigers fans have formed their own opinion. Merritt is average, not a bad support player but is a woeful defender. Wesser was past his use by date 3 years ago. Simpson is honest but that's not saying much. Sandow arrived with a bang but has fizzled out, Champion, Best & Talanoa have a couple decent games a year but that's it. None of these players will win you a game because they're simply not good enough.

Of their backs only Sutton is any good, and even then he isn't consistent enough.

All there back a quality- Talona is a great finisher, Merrit has improved in defence- but NONE of them are consistent. They will mak the 8 imo with lang

Wesser on his day, is imo the best fullback in the NRL. He has been hit hard by injuries but if he overcomes out he may be in the QLD side. He was the best fullback consistantly for 3 or 4 years. (03,04,05,06)

God, what garbage. He had a blinder in 03, played very well in 04 and since then has been innocuous.

There's no way he's going to get back into the form of 5 years ago. I'd go as far as to say he's one of the worst fullbacks in the game atm.

06 he scored 19 tries. Played origin. 07, 08 and 09 he was injured. On his day he is in the top 3 fullbacks in the NRL. I would have him here in a half beat.

They have a very good backline, as this years trys scored stats show......Sutton on his day is one of the best players running around.
With the pack theyre assembling they look very good on paper....some Tigers fans are just blinded by bias

I agree on the Tigers bias, however in this case if all of those players were off contract and available, the only one I would sign is John Sutton. I don't think that backline is very good at all.

At his best his attacking play is second to none-

Definsively and postionally he doesn't come close to Slater.......either does Hayne for that matter

wow what an ignorant comment... merritt isnt exactly TNT but his defense and positioning in defense are one of his strengths...

If our backs are so bad, how did they manage to score the most tries in the comp?

Firstly, my comments were made more from the perspective of who I'd take at the Tigers in place of who we've got.

Now that that's out of the way - Merritt's defence is one of his strengths? HAHAHAHAHAHA! He is a sieve in defence. Personally I'd prefer him at fullback to Wesser at this stage of their respective careers, but he is hardly representative standard. A solid first grader at best and a below average defender.

Oh, and according to NRLstats, the Tigers backs scored more tries than Souths backs last year so please stop perpetuating that myth.

wtf... the only souths games you watched this year were the times we played you... is that enough to pass judgement on merrit? pffft

tigers have a good backline i have to admit, i wouldnt trade lawrance or TNT for merrit either if i was you, but that does not make our backline sh1t.. as for merrit being a rep standard, where did i say he was?

tigers backs v souths backs.. now you are just being pedantic.. im sure the tigers backs scored more than our backs, but by a try or two.. big f*cking deal... that really proves a point

It does prove a point - it proves you're a f**king nuffy who doesn't know what he's talking about. You've been disproved by two different people jackass, now f**k off.

hang on hang on.

Whats this 566 - 588 was my point bullsh*t.

You said very clearly that Souths backs scored the most tries in the comp.

Not points, TRIES.

Your point, as you clearly stated, was that Souths backs scored the most tries in the comp.

Not points.

As for the stats, which you brought into the argument, they prove you wrong and through them, you proved yourself to be a liar and idiot and now on the back pedal, trying to move the posts to suit your lost argument.

Both clubs scored a total of 103 tries.

And claims of Merritt being a bad defender is just pure ignorance. Argue all you want, but from someone that watches a lot of rugby league, and 24 Souths games a year, he is anything but.
