Albanese and V'landys are more demented than Biden if they think this ridiculous PNG/Cairns proposal is worthy of an NRL licence.

What on Earth are they putting in the drinking water in Sydney?

People in "the harbour city" should swap to bottled water before they end up like Peter Fitzsimons.
Hahaha no Logan for you buddy

I've not seen any stadium proposed for Cairns, got any links?

The Cowboys are a regional team appealing to the catchment of NQ (and a large part of rural QLD outside that). Even then we went broke almost immediately and if it wasn't for News $$ we wouldn't exist today

When they were introduced that's how it stacked up, it's always been more then about Townsville.

Cairns on its own doesn't stack, and it's even more untenable when it's FIFO not even aimed at Cairns locals, and aimed at another Country and culture.

It makes more sense for an existing Sydney team to link with PNG and to do this. But even that's ludicrous.

Using the Windies as an example is bizarre. Since the early 90s they have been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster and there manufactured nature has been there ultimate downfall.

West Indies just dominated cricket for almost 30 years

So you would grade the West Indies last 2 decades as a success?

Test cricket has fallen out of favour & their best players contract for t20 leagues.
NRL is nothing like cricket & to say pacific team won't work like west indies, who previously were the longstanding kings of the sport is a reach, but the superleaguers want Perth & Adelaide and need to say a lot of shi..

It really depends on how much funding Albo can guarantee and for how long. Otherwise, yes it’s a dumb idea.

Personally you'd think if was to be funded by the govt, it would be done as a 5-10 year contract, that way if govt changes power, that amount of time is contractually binded... hell NRL might even say pay up front, if your really serious, and keep that sorted and renewed every broadcast deal, adjusting the figures to match, but get it all funded up front.. that way it doesn't end up the money pit that GWS has become for ALF ... snuarrff

Thats why I'd base it in Wellington. If the Govt does, and it will, eventually, withdraw funding at least the NRL has a NZ2 side with a chance of some level of viability. Reality is a PNG club out of Cairns is never going to be able to generate the revenue necessary to be self sustaining.

Are you suggesting Giants are a successful model and the NRL is right to follow it?
No way and you know it.
Remind me how much money they received from Vicky kicky house last year and they aren't even treading water?
They will never get anywhere near autarky and will always be a huge blackhole for Vicky Kicky house, and something else you know, but won't admit to, and i say again "Anybody who pays for a ticket to a midgets home game is a fool with the amount of freebies they give out" and you know that as well.
If it wasn't for Andrew Bar in Canberra they would have properly gone to the wall by now and he uses Tax payers to fund their games in Canberra.
Thanks for confirming yet again that you are a fan of the Anglo-Irish game by confirming your support for the midgets who happen to be the biggest financial black hole in Australia sporting history, and showing your lack of business acumen.

Yet plenty seem to think having a NZ2 or Pacifika club playing at numerous venues (and even the Dolphins) is a recipe for success? So which is it GWS got it right playing in two cities or the model is stupid and NRL shouldnt follow it?

18th team creates revenue for extra game. If Aussie government pays for new team even better. If politics change & funding stops after five years then bring in somebody else to replace them. Not end of world & think about talent being created across pacific at time.
