It’s going to be dressed up as increased aid to png because of China

maybe you should leave the politics to albo and just for us on whether the arlc should turn down between 150 and 200 million of govt money into rugby league
you got a link to that $150-200mill of committed funding?

No? Thought so. lol

I think a PNG team should cost the government at least $25 million a year with a cancellation payment of $150 million if that support is cut before 20 years. As well as a Parramatta style stadium for the Tigers and Bulldogs to share. And new rectangular stadiums in Perth and Cairns.

I mean if China is so scary let’s spare no expense!

I'm not a fan of the Pasifika idea, but if the Government does actually commit the money needed to cover the team fully to ensure that they are not only exist but can succeed over at least a 20 year period, then it becomes a case of do we turn it down and risk RU getting the cash to do something instead?

We saw what a sh*t fight it was amongst the population when the NSW Govt. wanted to upgrade a few stadiums in the state.
Imagine the federal govt. telling people they’re going to pump 10’s of millions into an NRL team for the next decade that isn’t even in Australia lol

If both Labor and the Coalition don’t sign off on it then it’s not going to work.

A 2nd Melbourne team would do that
Would create so much sponsorship money
Media money
Create a lot of attention
Both teams could Play a few games in Adelaide
Tasmania
Like storm used to
A league has 3 teams now
Create rivalry

I agree. That's why I find it laughable that the WA government are " helping" Perth red thinks this makes it a done deal lol.
You can't trust politicians.
But look at the US sending 100 billion to Ukraine... for a war. 🤷‍♂️ who knows which wayvthe sheep will run 🤷‍♂️
The media will dictate to the population how they're supposed to feel and that will be that.
Do they decide to frame it as " helping our neighbours " or blowing your tax dollars...?
So Albanese is currently giving lip service, testing the water.. waiting to see how it polls, how the media frame it. It will get louder until the Labor party gets a consensus , if there's a backlash and they might loose a vote, it'll get dumped. If the media starts doing some personal stories/ heart felt rubbish and the public get on board.. sky's the limit.

The support isn't there for a Melbourne 2. Melbourne ( luckily) have been the most successful team in the comp since thier inception.
And despite that overwhelming success their crowds are just alright.
Imagine the scenario where we have probably already captured anyone ready to ditch AFL for league through a very successful team. Then we introduced a new team that wasn't successful on the field..
If the Storm weren't as successful as they have been, they probably would have folded long ago.
Thank god that didn't happen but don't push your luck.

Never speculated anything like, I’ve said what I hope they’d offer and what I’d be asking for if I was nrl. You really do struggle with comprehension.

Link for that govt funding you’ve stated as fact?

Storm played 3 trials here in about 20 years. I’m not excited about them coming back and I’ve had no recent contact from nrl Victoria that they will invest here. Investing in Tasmania is virtually pointless. The spread of population is too wide, and it’s too small. The Pacifika community here is tiny. Unless there is a sudden influx of Pacifika there is no focal point for growing the game here. Storm are better off working regional Victoria with a focus on the nsw border as well as heading out to Geelong. I say all this having given it a bloody good go a decade ago and coming up empty. We had our chance but it’s basically a waste of time now unless some big dollars are thrown around here and a solid strategic plan is in place. Why would you bother? If Perth and Adelaide are serious contenders for a team why invest in Tasmania? Money better spent elsewhere.
