Stadium in Cairns had been proposed for the Olympics, they wont be at that shithole for long, as for population, the cowboys in 1995 were introduced with a population of 113k, so cairns is fine especially since the team isn't playing there fulltime, its a base of operations, like Redcliffe for the dolphins, they play 3 games a year at kayo stadium, the rest/bulk at suncorp.. i dont see this any different...
Whatever your bias beliefs/opinions are on this bid.
It doesn't matter really its what they (arlc) want, the aus govt wants it, or moreso wants to pay for it, and having a PNG presence in the competition will do wonders, like the West Indies did for cricket...
The talent pool will increase due to more players coming from their digitel cup competition, and with an Australian base/training facility the govt wont feel to unhinged about the innerworking of it if it were set up in png, plus you try and get craig bellamy to run a side in PNG, when you have the option to get him to live in cairns instead, that goes for any off contract player and coaching staff, the best part about it .... ITS IN QUEENSLAND!!! (....You know that song)
Wheres Papua new guinea? ITS IN QLD!!!
I've not seen any stadium proposed for Cairns, got any links?
The Cowboys are a regional team appealing to the catchment of NQ (and a large part of rural QLD outside that). Even then we went broke almost immediately and if it wasn't for News $$ we wouldn't exist today
When they were introduced that's how it stacked up, it's always been more then about Townsville.
Cairns on its own doesn't stack, and it's even more untenable when it's FIFO not even aimed at Cairns locals, and aimed at another Country and culture.
It makes more sense for an existing Sydney team to link with PNG and to do this. But even that's ludicrous.
Using the Windies as an example is bizarre. Since the early 90s they have been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster and there manufactured nature has been there ultimate downfall.
