I'd never heard that

I have a weird version of Ship Song that has the start of PJ's version then goes into Nick Cave & PJ Harvey and also supposedly Concrete Blonde.

Actually, found it on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5jBoyvrf5I

I don't know Concrete Blonde at all so no idea if that's actually in there of it's just Nick Cave/PJ Harvey.

Honesty I can't work that out. Some comment said it was Eddie Vedder and Johnette Napolatino (lead singer from Concrete Blonde). Sounds like it starts with Eddie Vedder then Nick Cave takes over with some indistinguishable backing vocals. I only lasted to halfway...pretty woeful.

Cat's In The Cradle - Ugly Kid Joe. The original by Harry Chapin had a bit of emotion in it but UKJ's whiney vocals destroy a reasonable song.

Viva Las Vegas - ZZ Top. My favourite Elvis Presley song (not a fan of most of his stuff) gets butchered by a band who should have stopped making music after Tres Hombres.

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Anybody. One song that should be exempt from having cover versions made of it - probably one of the most influential songs of all time. Poxy versions that spring to mind are from Miley Cyrus and Tori Amos. Which goes to support the theory that females should not cover originals done by male vocalists (see Madonna above).

American Woman - Lenny Kravitz. Sounds like ole Lenny wanted to make an exact duplicate of The Guess Who's dirty grindy classic from 1968. Total fail.

I thought the Melvins did a good job.

Simple Plan absolutely ruined Justified Black Eye on the Tony Sly tribute album. Some great covers on there though.

Looks like some of you are on the money for the "Butchered Covers Award".

I did a quick Google on the subject and found these worst ever cover version ratings.

American Pie - Madonna. No. 1 with UK's Independent Newspaper, no. 3 with Rolling Stone magazine and ultimate-guitar.com, no. 5 with louderthanwar.com and retrocrush.com and no. 16 with cracked. com

Sweet Child of Mine - Cheryl Crow. No. 4 with Rolling Stone magazine and ultimate-guitar.com, no. 8 with cracked.com and no. 31 with retrocrush.com.

Others to feature high on these lists were:-

You Shook Me All Night Long - Celine Dion (AC/DC)......WTF!!!!

Imagine - Avril Lavinge (John Lennon)

Faith - Limp Bizkit (George Michael)

These Boots Were Made For Walking - Jessica Simpson (Nancy Sinatra)

I Love Rock 'n' Roll - Britney Spears (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts who did a cover themselves of the original song by The Arrows)

I love Patti Smith's cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_ciiCyxOJA

Vandals covered the Pennywise song Come out Fighting as a tribute to Jason and that is one of the BEST covers ever.

I have a soft spot for the Mrs Robinson cover as it features in quite a prominent scene in Waynes World 2 (Gordon Street... I once knew a girl who lived on Gordon Street... but that was long ago.... when I was young...), which I totally love.

Also I gotta say Limp Bizkit is a bit of a guilty pleasure, so I quite enjoy his version of Faith, and hasn't tainted my enjoyment of the original either (which I fondly remember from RTR Countdown, the old school music video show in NZ that everyone watched in the 80s & early 90s).

Sheryl Crow's abomination of Sweet Child is absolutely terrible, probably gets my pick. The Celine Dion one would too I suppose if I had heard it, but will stay away thank you very much.

We butchered a couple of covers in my time in a band doing cover gigs in 2008/2009. Most notably the one time we tried Flathead by The Fratellis after minimal practice, totally screwed up the Ba-da-da-da-da-da-da-da bit over and over, so never revisited that song again, haha.

There was a crappy girl group that did a cover of the Chili Peppers' Under The Bridge a while back.
All Saints I'm pretty sure they were called. It was a terrible, terrible version.
