Anyhow it’s now a new day , we have heard the bad news , tossed it around , thrown it back and forth , stomped on it , the individual in question, the coach and club .

Perhaps if we recall that Griffin stated he is only interested in signing players who wish to be at the club then it may put everything into perspective - the gentleman in question simply did not .

Time to move on . We need to get behind the coach and the new administration and look towards the future - not the past .

We owe this to our players who will be representing the Joint Venture and the Big Red V .:innocent:

Young had no idea.
Do I think Mary has it to be a top notch coach? No.
Do I respect Mary?
Yes.

The way the handled his sacking and the timing of it was poor. If they wanted to do it, the should have done it after season 2019.
Sacking him mid season 2020 wasted the rest of the season with L Plate Young.

I think Mary had to be, and was going to be moved on eventually. So I would have waited until the end of 2021 to hand over to Shane Flanagan.
McInnes definitely would have stayed under both of them. And so would Dufty.

The club was bleeding supporters while McGregor remained at the helm. The only mistake with the timing of his departure was in it being too late. We were never going to make the finals, regardless of who was the coach. The few games with Young showed pretty clearly that he wasn’t ready to be an NRL coach and might of saved us from another few years of suffering with a different incompetent coach in charge.

McInness decided to leave before he had very much to do with any new coach. One meeting with the Sharks at the end of the year before he had even joined the squad for training was all he needed to decide to move. You don’t fight to keep a player who wants to leave like this. I’m thankful for his efforts these last few years but happy to let him move on. Brandon Smith would be a great replacement, or Hunt moves to hooker and one of our young guys steps up into the halves.

I for one do not believe the next two years to be our darkest. We are still in the tunnel but The more we let go and get rid of any connection to the McGregor reign the brighter it will be.

I share your optimism!

When all is said and done, your club is getting off its knees and starting to walk. We are the same.

I smell a Flanagan / Mary reunion in the coaching ranks at shark headquarters in 2022

Similar to Price going over to help Flanigan Mary will do the same
Mary’s last departing gift
Steal Cam from under our noses :broken_heart:

Its a John Morris signing for starters. Wants him to play lock. I'd say it might be as simple as that, plus he knows the performance trainer we poached from you. Speculating about the future of our current coach that just managed to sign your (c) is deluded. Thanks for the laffs though.

Interview on sky sports radio.
This morning.
He did say dragons statement true yesterday.
Wanted long term deal.
He wanted best situation for himself.
Had a conversation with Hook yesterday.
Disappointed to hear talk about him and Mary.
Still like to be captain.
He feels relaxed now deal done.
Check podcast later in the day.

I am a real admirer of Cam McInnes due to his never say die attitude and courage in the ‘traffic’ of the game.

Like many of these situations decisions to leave a club are probably multi faceted and no one will know the exact nature of the situations.

Most likely Cam looked at 2022 and a four year deal at $550 odd a season locked away to age 32 would have been very enticing. The shire is a nice place to live. Players have a short timeframe to set themselves up.

It is what it is. Cam wanted to go and all said and done as Bugs Bunny said ‘ that’s all folks’.

Exactly what did Dragons offer? Sharks offer the 4 year deal do me retires at 32 years old. Meanwhile we get another from another club or develop one of our own.

Further reflections on this whole situation...

The summary that Mary put out via the SMH on Cam was on the money. He's a guy that certainly gives his all both on the training paddock and on the field, which will be a big distraction initially and ultimately a big loss for us as a club.

However, as much as Cam may have been lighting up the stats sheets throughout these last two years, as a leader & captain of the club unfortunately he also needs to shoulder some of the blame for the poor overall performances of the team. He's showing a bit too much love for the old regime in my view - and this is not what we need to move forward as a club. Consequently, whether it was by his choice (due to his loyalty to Mary & the old regime), the club forcing his hand, or a combination of factors - he is now on his way out the door and good luck to him !

Those who have come out on social platforms in the last 24 hours criticizing the club for the timing of McGregor being moved on and the subsequent hiring of Hook need to give themselves a massive uppercut !!

The club, or more specifically the football team and the top to bottom operations around it, need MASSIVE change and Hook is the perfect guy to drive that change. No doubt the guy is going to ruffle a few feathers (particularly some of the players who have needed to face some harsh realities for a long time coming). Some of the decisions that will be made are going to come from left field, they probably won't make sense, and they are probably not going to be popular (as we've now seen). In the short-term, some of these decisions are going to cause massive noise and unrest among the club and its supporters. But ultimately we will be much better off in the longer term as a result.

My best advice to most fans is to stop having loyalty towards any individual player and focus on the bigger picture of how the team performs overall as Cams performances, as good as they have been, certainly haven't been good enough to improve the overall performance of the team in the last two years. I stopped having loyalty towards individual players after Gasnier more or less screwed us over by leaving his contract early, not once but twice !!

Yes but it’s a question of whether we should offer 4 year deals and traditionally its been Saints philosophy that they don’t. They made an exception for Lomax and possibly could/should’ve have for Bennett but on the whole i don’t mind it. As much as i admire his effort i don’t think McInnes is in that class. Similarly, Sharks were willing to offer Dugan 4 years at a higher price, Saints weren’t. Personally thought Saints were correct then and think they are correct now. We’ll be fine!

But would he have gone if Mary was still our coach?

‘Less awkward now’: McInnes breaks silence on Griffin rift after shock Sharks switch

Dragons star Cameron McInnes has broken his silence since his shock defection to arch rivals the Sharks and opened up on a perceived rift with Anthony Griffin.

The 27-year-old will see out the final year of his contract at the Dragons before making the switch and sighted the timeline and length of his new deal as the main reasons for moving on.

“It was not an easy decision to leave the club,” McInnes said on The Big Sports Breakfast.

“I think the Dragons made a statement yesterday that sums it up best that we had different time frames in terms of a deal.

“I was pretty keen to get it sorted well before the season kicked off, where as understandably the club is going through a transition period and they need a little bit longer.

“It is unfortunate how it has worked out but I am really grateful to the club for being respectful and honest to me throughout the whole process and working with me.”

McInnes also responded to reports of a rift with new Dragons coach Anthony Griffin.

“Hook has brought a real toughness in how he wants to play and I have really enjoyed it,” McInnes said.

“To be honest it is probably less awkward now and I had a good chat with Hook yesterday and we are on the same page in terms of getting after this season.

“I am 27 now and it feels like I’m getting on a bit, so I am not looking to waste a year that’s for sure.

“Hook said I will be playing hooker or No.13 this year, but it is just about getting better.

“It is unfortunate (the Griffin conjecture) and I don’t put my head in the media too much, but I have seen a couple of things.”

McInnes believes the commentary around his relationship with his new coach was more about his closeness with McGregor than any rift with Griffin.

“What you have got to remember when Mary (Paul McGregor) brought me to the club they were coming off a really poor season and they were under the pump, but he still gave me a chance and I was nowhere near established at that time.

“To give this young kid a starting hooker role at a great club was a big risk by him, so I am forever going to be loyal and grateful to him for that and he will be a friend for life.

“I was upset when Mary left because I am so close to him, but I understood a change needed to happen.

“But I’ve really enjoyed working with Hook and this is only my fourth week back after Christmas, so that was probably part of it, that I didn’t get too meet too much with him before Christmas and build that relationship.

“To hear those things is disappointing because it is almost like you can’t show loyalty to someone and then not have a relationship with someone else, so that’s the hardest part of it.”

The former Rabbitohs rake also confirmed he would be playing lock at the Sharks and does not see himself as a player with just one position anymore.

“They said before we started (negotiations) where do you see yourself and I’ve said all along that I don’t see myself as a hooker or lock, it is just either or,” McInnes said.

“I guess that is why the Cronulla option went under the radar because most people were looking at teams that had a hooker opening thinking that is what I wanted.

“But for me it was the best situation to be successful and try and compete so whatever position that is I am happy to play.

“The ability to play with Blayke Brailey was attractive as well there.

“They have got a great forward pack, but I really like the way he plays out of dummyhalf. He is really quick and skilful.

“Last year playing that No.13 role with Ben Hunt at hooker I really enjoyed our combination we struck up together, so I saw that as a good opportunity as well.”
