Cameron Smith’s stunning call for NRL to return Melbourne’s stripped titles

Doesn’t the Cap reduction usually represent the amount of the breach?

From the presser, I took it as minor breach / breaches 2013-15 which isn’t that uncommon for clubs. 2016 there may be unreported TPA/s however their amount insignificant and even added to the value of the player payments, remained below the salary Cap.

They said this undisclosed money ramped up in 2017 which is the main issue here from what I read into it.

From memory they said the business opened up for TPA,s by a director, was a clear indication of an intention, not that it was definitely used.

Anyway, if anyone else knows for sure, I’m happy to be corrected.

So the plan was to knowingly cheat the amount shouldn't matter in these cases

I vote yes, yeah yeah Smith is scum and I hate the storm but I wasn't even watching that hard during those years and it was pretty clear they were cheating at the time and no one at NRL HQ said anything. Give them back the titles at least so the league doesn't have a gap in the history.

First expanded finals now this, must be a cunning NRL plan to distract from de Belin/Walker/etc by creating some “safe”
controversies to fill the column inches and talkback airtime...

It's definitely 'this'-- Cam Smith makes announcements very tactically.

It's like how he "considered" retiring last year in the week leading up the the NRL Grand Final so journalists would spend more time talking about him and less talking about the Billy Slater tribunal case.

I would say get off your high horse, and f him and the horse he rode in on, but it’s wrong as he clearly he arrived on his luxury boat.

Be careful Cameron, you’ll cause a ‘nulla riot with that talk.

Yep Like where not afraid to take up arms MOLON LABEl:D

They were just given peptides ;)

That helped a lot...Rodney Howe says hi...

Rodney Howe (Rugby League)

A dominant forward presence for the Newcastle Knights, Western Reds and Melbourne Storm, Howe received a 22-match ban while with the Storn in 1998 for using banned anabolic steroid stanozolol, the drug of choice of disgraced Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson.

Howe returned to be a key component in Storm’s 1999 Premiership.

I tend to agree - it is up to the NRL to police this better. If the NRL can't work out who is over the cap before a premiership is won then leave it. It is a farce to see gaps in the premiership record for those years. Fine the hell out of them and strip points for the next season (effectively ruining the season) if you have to, but don't strip titles - it just makes the game a laughing stock.

Smith is the Gould of the NRL players, can say and do anything he pleases whilst being affiliated with a club without any repercussions.

Just further shows how stupid the Sharks management really is...

Rodney Howe got done for steroid use in '98 and yet the Starks still decided to get involved with Steven Dank and use them in 2011.

The Storm were caught over the salary cap in 2010, yet the Sharks still decided to rort the salary cap only a few years later.

Wouldn't you think they'd learn from the mistakes of other clubs rather than being that mismanaged they are repeating the mistakes of the past?

Who is saying the Sharks didn’t?

The grubs comparison is the issue. Not even close to them

So you are fine if teams only get a fine for knowingly cheating the cap?

Not saying the premiership should go exactly but shouldn't be starting on zero points.

There is pretty much no punishment for rorting the cap
