It all depends on your definition of "greatest" or "best"

He is definatatly not the "flashiest" and hence isn't the greatest when it comes to watchability, but he has played at a high level consistently for more games than anyone else, he didn't have a career peak, he is just consistently good.

Its his footy mind that makes him stand out, which is less visible as its more behind the scenes, management sort of stuff.

Best captain might be an easier sell than best overall, although I think when he retires he will be remembered as the goat, he gets called this by the current crop of media and past players, and they are the ones who will drive this narrative. The second he's been retired long enough he will be made an immortal. No doubts there
