Hull KR coach Justin Morgan has set his side the stiff target of winning half of their eight remaining engage Super League matches to avoid the drop.
Rovers, who remain in deep relegation trouble after losing their last five matches, launch their great escape plan in Perpignan this evening against Catalans Dragons.
The French club are just three points above the Robins but are immune from relegation, which is increasingly looking like a two-horse race with Salford, who visit Warrington on Sunday.
The bottom two meet in a potentially decisive clash at The Willows on August 3 and Morgan is desperately hoping his side can put some daylight between the sides before then.
"If we can get to 20 points, which is four wins, we'll be pleased," he said.
"The game at Salford is a huge one and it's important to have a bit of space between ourselves and Salford when we get there to take a bit of the pressure out of the game.
"We need to win very soon and, when that happens, I'm confident we can string one or two together.
"It's certainly looking like it's going to be between ourselves and Salford but any team on less than 18 points is going to be in the mix.
"With the topsy-turvy nature of Super League, we know that anyone can beat anyone.
"There is an air of confidence among the players and an air of determination to get the job done. It's new territory for a lot of them but they've still got faith in what we're doing."
Rovers face a Catalans side who have won five of their eight games at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium this year and the French also won 34-20 at Craven Park on Good Friday.
In also swapping the damp air of northern England for the sunny climes of southern France, the Robins know the odds are stacked against them.
"We play at eight o'clock at night, so the temperature is not going to be as high," said Morgan. "I'm sure there will be some advantage but not a huge one.
"It's a little bit of a mindset thing, if you allow it to get to you. We've quite a few overseas players who have played in heat back in Australia.
"As for being at home, it's a French mentality. They have a huge pride in winning at home.
"That's more important than winning anywhere else, it's part of their culture.
"It will certainly be tough to get a result but I'm confident that if we can improve on some fundamental things we can be very competitive and get the points."
Rovers, without chief playmakers Paul Cooke and Chris Chester, recall goalkicking centre Gareth Morton and utility back Andreas Bauer, while prop Makali Aizue returns from a three-match ban to help offset the absence of Michael Vella.
Catalans welcome back promising centre or winger Vincent Duport from a two-month absence with a groin problem, while back row forward Andrew Bentley takes the place of Julien Touxagas.
