hindmarsh isn't even close to his form of a few years ago. he is also fatter. there is a direct link there. he is our highest paid player and has all the talent in the world. if he pulls his socks up he could be the next gorden tallis, but right now he's not even looking like the next craig fitzgibbon. he is always going to be one of our best players, but the fact is he could and should be so much better

maybe all this fatherhood stuff and watching wiggles videos instead of fight club has turned our forwards into a pack of mushy sensitive softies.

Half I agree to a large extent.

I am prepared to offer Hindmarsh the excuse that the had a knee reconsturction very late last year. Decreased mobility and confidence in the short term must be almost inevitable.

As for the others, especially Cayless ...

If you are a professional athlete, paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year ... why do you need to drinkl AT ALL during the season.

The drinking and training culture needs to be fully and firmly investigated from top to bottom.

Suity and I have been commenting for weeks that we have been unfit. I am prepared to say that we have actually lost most games because of fitness more than any other factor.

Fans pay to watch these players play, and they are not even adequately fit to compete for 80 minutes. The entire organisation is clearly wholly unprofessional in this regard.

surely the club will react to Caylo's little tiff

we may see him in premmy league next week and relieved of any captains duties that he may have been offered till the end of the season

given it happened a couple of weeks back and he is out injured, I'd say not.

if it hadn't been published in the papers maybe, now that it has recieved extensive media coverage they may be under public scrutiny to react

I guess we'll have to wait and see

If they say anything about it, I'd expect them to come out with something like:

"The event reported in the media over the weekend involving Nathan Cayless happened over two weeks ago. Nathan has already apologised and paid for the damage caused. The club consider the matter now closed."

We don't know what has happened inside the club.

It may have been dealt with internally by way of the 'counselling' of Nathan.

Rightly or wrongly, if the club have done that, they have done that and being realistic, thats where it should end I guess. Revisiting the matter and taking further action because it got a run in one sunday newspaper wont help anyone.

Almost but not quite.

Meanwhile, Eels skipper Nathan Cayless, who missed the Friday night fireworks because of a knee injury, will not face disciplinary action after breaking a security camera at Star City Casino just over a fortnight ago. Asked if Cayless faced an investigation into his actions, Eels chief executive Denis Fitzgerald replied: "None. It's all over and done with."

To take a positive from a negative. All this drama can give the players and club officials something to blame for our form slump.

PLAYER ATTITUDE!!

There is only one way to fix this and it comes from the individuals.

Let's hope they do. We are good enough football side (WHEN RIGHT) to win a lot of games straight.

Call me crazy but it would not suprize me at all for us to come good very soon and remind every other team in the comp why we were minor premiers last year, but it is going to take 100% dedication on and off the field by every single player in the club!!

well here's my take

firstly, i read the whole article and took it all in........

secondly, i do not excuse Nathan Cayless for his actions

thirdly, i do however, consider that because

- he has admitted that this story is true )even though 2 weeks old)
- he was reportedly very remorseful
- he immediately owned up to Hotel staff
- he immediately offered to pay all damage (and can only assume he has or will)
- he openly saved Hindmarsh from any public scarring by saying that Hindmarsh had nothing to do with it and it was just him that did anything wrong
- he admitted he was simply "pissed and frustrated about being refused service", menaing he didn't try and make up any wild story about it was all the stress of the club and BS etc and just went with the honest truth
- he did it after losing two big game sin less than 24 hours - AND people may remember how visibly sh!tty he was on the field with hios teammates during the end of the Canberra game AND that he had to stop Hindmarsh and others teammates from fighting on the field

because all this has been said and done, i'm willing to move on

i disagree about people quickly saying he should be stripped of the captaincy over this, can anyone say Trent Barrett doing push-ups????

i disagree with people saying it's much worse than what Tim Smith and Riddell did because it was in public????? It happend in a Star City lift and id didn't directly affect the club, club training etc

let's face it people - he was pissed, did somethign stupid and immediately owned up to it and offered to fix it up

i'm not excusing him for this, but don't be so niave as to think 'players don't drink AND get pissed through the season' - it might not be good, but unfortunately it does happen and can even happen to the best of them

let's not overlook his own words in defending himself "i've been at the club for 10 seasons and have been incident free"

people should not over-react about this

Kinda sad really when double standards are exposed within the club
Denis is the king of double standards! 10 years is too long to coach a football team, but 28 years in charge isn't too long!

He also knows that it is State of Origin week, and with Cayless out injured anyway (not to mention the million other woes our club has), the likehood is this story will blow over.

Having said that Nathan Cayless has an exemplery behaviour record, over an extended period with our club. I seem to remember reading things on hear where he has grabbed our players and taken them out of bars and clubs when there has been a chance of a situation arising. Not saying he is beyond reproach but assuming all the right apologies have been made, I see no reason why this should be dragged out any further.

The real questions are. Who organises a pi#s up Harbour cruise during the busy rep season? Anyone who saw Cayless interviewed after the Raiders game saw his head. Who allows him to get on the piss after injuries like he appeared to have. Why all of the sudden do we have discipline problems with the one guy who over ten years hasn't had any?! Grothe, while is attitude could be questioned has also never had discipline problems, now he is out losing his phone. Players wanting out of contracts left and right, fitness way down and the same squad who won the minor premiership less than 8 months ago is now running second last! Why is all this happening, what is the one thing different about this year, that we haven't had in the past....

Denis's decision in October and the way he went about it, that is what is different. But don't expect him to say he is accountable for any of this.
