Congratulations and I hope you go out with a premiership. Caylo seemed mighty dissapointed with the announcement being leaked. That is two players in two days critising the club.

saw cayless on the box.

seemed annoyed that it had been 'leaked' out, that he wanted to make the announcement at his own timing.

if someone from the club leaked it, they should be shot.

Cayless furious at retirement leak

The cracks in Parramatta's sinking premiership campaign appear to be widening with Eels skipper Nathan Cayless left filthy at the leaking of his impending retirement.

With the one-time NRL title favourites already battling to turnaround a horror start to the season and with several under-performing stars put on notice by chief executive Paul Osborne - Cayless on Wednesday revealed his disappointment at having his thunder stolen.

Cayless said he decided during the off-season that this would be his last campaign, claiming the poor run of results and speculation over his place in the team and his captaincy of the club had not impacted the call.

He had planned to make the announcement later this week, and while Cayless refused to point the finger at anyone, it appears certain the leak came from within the club.

The 32-year-old - who became the first player to captain the one club in 200 games last weekend - said he informed staff and team-mates of his decision before the first game of the year.

"I made the decision a long time ago, in the off-season before we started training, it's just unfortunate the way it came about - I'm disappointed that it came out like this," Cayless said.

"I really wanted to announce my retirement in front everyone.

"It's done and there's nothing you can do about it - I don't know how it came about ... it was out of my control."

someone at the club needs to shut their f**king gob

A wise decision by Caylo, the game has changed and is changing. He's achieved a lot - one club player, long-term club captain, international captain. Only the premiership eludes him, and he too knows that if we don't get it with this year's squad we're f**ked for the forseeable future...

Congrats Nathan, all the best with your future post-footy career.

edit: ( just noticed ED's news link..)

somone in the club who's obviously been a little chatty of late needs to pull back and give himself an uppercut, I've been told that the players as a collective group are ultra pissed with admin atm..

interesting times.

Interesting... didn't the original story in the paper by Josh Massoud (sighted at lunchtime today) contain the words "sources from inside the club"... is this the legacy of that election-time "special relationship" still rearing it's ugly head? And now Josh himself is also writing the story about how Cayless is angry it was leaked....

Our club is struggling and belatedly cutting Joshie's umbilical cord would be one very wise move on the part of the powers that be.

How many log in's do you have Pete? You have enough persona's on here to qualify for group therapy sessions all by yourself.

Sorry Crazy, that one has gone over my head...
Please explain, a little slowly if you don't mind...

I dont mind the club using Josh to get stuff out there, but this just smacks of 1. disrespect to cayless and 2.desperation on the back of the rothfield story on Monday

Disappointing it came out like this but he's had a great career and achieved most notably captaining the Kiwis to a world cup win, and becoming the only player to captain one side for 200 games. A Parramatta legend.

On a side note, ther wer really digsuting comments made about Caylo on the Telegraph's site by so called Parra fans about his retirement. Glad none of them use this forum.

You will be holding the 2010 NRL Premiership Trophy as well Nathan.
The garbage coming from admin is settling down now.
The culprits are being dealt with and all the boys will start getting
that awesome 2009 rhythm back.
Look out Raiders, an annihilation is in the wind.

You are truly loved by Casper's family.

A big congrats to Capt Cayless ! A great clubman.

Please lets not pollute this thread on a great ambassador for our club with mention of the exact opposite, regardless of how bad you think our current halves are going :(

Wow...This is sad news. :(

I, personally, have only ever known the Eels with Nathan Cayless as our captain. It will be very different to not have him around any more. :(

But he's been a great ambassador for this great club, and a true gentleman of the game and I know he will be successful in his life after footy.

We'll miss you, Caylo!

Totally expected...but still somehow a shock. Thinking of Parramatta without Cayless just doesn't seem right, he's been a rock for over ten years. He will be massively missed by us and the game in general, only man to captain 200 games, international and world cup champion skipper (and one of NZs most capped players) and a fantastic clubman. It won't be the same without him

Wasn't handled well. Somehow I don't think DA or Osbourne were involved.

I think that the Tele has a spy within ranks of the eels.

True club legend...

He certainly gets my thanks for his service to the club on and off the field.

You reckon? Our "special relationship" with the Telegraph was pin-pointed in here around one year ago... and they sure are extracting their pound of flesh in return.

It is clear this has been leaked by some fool in the club. I'm just wondering what the club would have to gain by leaking such info?
