There any chance of dropping a current NSW team so that we can have the Bears, 2nd QLD team and WA Reds? That would be so perfect! It seems from what I read that the Bears have a much better situation than several current NSW teams, would be a shame that they can't get in because the NSW quota is full (when some of the teams in it clearly shouldn't be there)

This is something I have been saying for years.

Just found out the State voting pattern of the RLW survey on expansion which the Bears of course won so poll convincingly......interestingly, of those who voted for the Bears, 55% of those came from QLD, 45% from NSW.

So seems there is huge support for the Bears from QLD, which tends to back up the theory that the Bears are a national multi-generational brand with supporters across all States, and that QLDers will watch the Bears. Thank you QLD!

I've been saying for awhile now that QLD has alot of time and love for the Bears. Growing up here, many people I know used to support the Bears as their second team. The Bears never had a bad or grubby reputation and the success of Norths during the 90's, aswell as their large roster of qld players in the team made them a real fan favorite during that period.

We have members from as far west as Charleville, north as the Cape, south as the Gold Coast. Plenty of fans and supporters from CQLD, NQLD and of course Brisbane. It's without little doubt that the strong support interstate is what directly lead to the Bears being one of the most marketable and watched teams during that period of time.

So Queenslanders would rather see NSW get an 11th franchise before they get a 4th QLD team? I find that hard to believe.

That depends on the situation. Would some QLDers prefer a new plastic franchise or a historically rich one? As I stated in my post above yours, QLDers have ALOT of time for the Bears. Always have. As also indicated by many replies through out the media in regards to the Bombers, many QLDers don't feel that their bid is the right one to represent them. Especially Brisbanites.

QLDers in general have always had soft spot for the Bears, especially during the 80' and 90's. Could it be because of the underdog tag? Or because the likes of Ikin, Dallas, Moore, Larson, Goddard played for us during that period? Not sure but what I do know, growing up in QLD, it was very common to see QLDers back the Bears when the Broncos werent playing.

Hey genius, let's have another "Titans" team based on a Cronulla-esque Centre of Excellence. Thanks to the Titans, the Gold Coast Suns attemdances will double over the next 2 years then quadruple when the Titans fold. Honeymoon's over.

Instead of trying to do "pat my butt" favours for Queensland and set up a paper-thin franchise for the sake of it, rugby league should be putting in financially secure teams to bolster the game. No-one comes within a bull's roar of the Central Coast Bears bid. They never did - never will.

It's an indictment on the game and the wankers that run it that we still have to wait for the green light after 11 long years.

Interesting that the Qld-based Bear-haters have been so quiet about this over the past couple of days.
Could it be that they've realized their views are not as commonly held as they seem to believe...?
Sure, its only a RLW poll, but the numbers, if quoted correctly, seem to say that it's not just "a handful of die-hard former NS fans" that believe the CC would be the best step moving forwards.

I'm surprised at that sample split given A) population size between the two places and B) some of the responses in terms of moving the GF out of Sydney and SOO.
Would have sworn for all money that it would have been a much bigger NSW representation. Did he say what the total response size what?

I see no reason that 2014 isn't a realisitic goal if they call for expansion tenders in March next year and decide by July.

Not sure if its been mentioned on one the the threads before, and I'm not sure myself, but generally the RLW poll generates 2,500-4000 responses. Guessing it would be in that range. Someone I'm sure will know the exact number.

Isn't Ryde (West/North/East) Tiger's territory?

It right on the border of Bears/Tigers, but on the Tigers side if you look at the recent history. Up till the 1920's it was Bears turf. Nth Ryde is definitely Bear side.

The Bears didn't ask to be there - it can be sensitive encroaching on others turf, but this is an exception as its a favour to the Centre management administrators, Colliers I think, whose boss is a mad Bears fan and wants the Bears in his centre!

The Daily Telegraph also ran a poll during the week and 75% of respondants said the Manly v Melb brawl was good for the game - so i think the people voting in their polls, probably aren't the ones the NRL will be listening to when considering expansion.

And last time i checked the Daily Telegraph wasn't sold, nor popular in Perth, Brisbane, Port Morsby or anywhere else on that list... except the Central Coast...

Wouldn't read much into that

Whilst true and believe me we're not reading too much into it. In saying that, last time I checked it was an online poll and unless Perth, Brisbane or anywhere else don't have the internet available then anyone could have voted from anywhere in the world. BTW the DT is sold in Brisbane...
