Wow. You'd think they would get sell-out crowds at any chance they could. How many games a year do they get? If they want an NRL they should be selling out every single game, or getting mighty close.

That's like saying music fans should be rushing out to buy tickets to Justin Bieber of Lady Gaga concerts if they really want Led Zeppelin to reform and play a concert out here

How many people go along to games in Brisbane that don't involve the Broncos? Around 8,000 to the Bulldogs and Cowboys a few years back, and no-one's been game to try it again - they're clamouring for a (second) team!

Yes but other peoples opinions are backed up by arguments. For example, the extra ratings a qld team would bring by the virtue that you could have a Queensland team airing extra nights, a reds team bringing in a new as yet largely untapped tv audience with the potential for considerable growth.

What substantiates your opinion it is overstated?

If it's all about TV money - and only about TV, as so many nimrods here think - then we should be punting at least half the Sydney teams ASAP and replacing them with teams in foreign markets. The longer we hold out, the longer the all-important TV dosh will be held back

There's a hell of a lot more to the NRL and the expansion of the comp than increasing the TV rights - and despite that, the difference in value between the different bids is negligible, the real increase in cash comes from having an extra game a week to sell.

We know games involving QLD sides rate better in QLD, but by how much? I'm fairly sure docbrown or quidgybo have brought up ratings comparisons before, would be interesting to see them again. Last time I wasn't convinced that the difference is worth more than everything else the bears bring to the table.

I don't believe a second Brisbane team will be anywhere near as popular as the Broncos, and I think the Bears will be quite popular on TV, taking into account that NSW is a far larger market, and the existing and potential rivalries that the Bears have.

f**k youre a moron.

For starters you completely understate the value the tv rights brings to the table. It's a professional sport that has to compete with other professional sports, and money matters deal with it dumb ass.

Secondly your analogy is stupid. Simply putting a team in an area doesn't mean it will rate. If you are talking about a new area such as Perth, you are talking about an area that has some league supporters, and potential for that to grow considerably more than you would achieve by adding the CC. This wouldn't apply the same way to every single location, f**k you're dense.

CENTRAL COAST BEARS STILL ON TRACK
27th June, 2011 | Posted by Central Coast Bears.
The Central Coast Bears are well on track to achieve admittance into an expanded NRL competition. The delay in the appointment of an Independent Commission, who will ultimately decide on expansion, means that 2013 may not be achievable to bring together a competitive football team.
*
More realistic however, is 2014, with the NRL hinting that 1 team could be admitted then and a further team admitted in 2015. Bears CEO Greg Florimo stated today “We recently met with David Gallop, who reaffirmed the game’s intention to expand. We are all eagerly awaiting the formation of the Independent Commission, the body that will provide the strategy and vision to make sure expansion is a success. David assures us that the Central Coast Bears have a realistic chance of inclusion and we will make sure we are ready once the IC calls for submissions.”
*
While the Bears have been and remain focussed on 2013, it will be challenging to bring together a competitive team in such a short period of time. The BID will continue to build a compelling and powerful argument for inclusion, noting the sustainability of the club through its commercial operations and community engagement.
*
Not only will the Bears add value to the game of Rugby League through television and mobile media subscriptions, they will also add value to other NRL clubs particularly the Sydney based clubs. Disenfranchised Bears fans will flock to Sydney grounds to see the mighty red and black in action, and the heartland fans on the Central Coast will pack the house at Bluetongue Stadium.
*
An added strength to the commercial operations of the club will be its ability to source sponsorship across the breadth of the franchise area, which includes not only the vibrant Central Coast but also the North Shore of Sydney. There are almost 1,000,000 fans that don’t have a local team to follow and there are thousands of local businesses looking to invest into a local Rugby League franchise.

Typical leftist response in a debate- shallow on facts, rich on name-calling and insults. What a surprise.

Maybe just maybe David Gallop isn't a sadomasochist. Maybe just maybe he's giving them hope for a reason. Maybe just maybe he's letting people invest so much time in this for a reason...

Correct - either he's weak as piss and can't tell people to their face to give up (in which case he shouldn't be CEO), he's evil and enjoys torturing a bid team, or he's been encouraging the CC Bears for over 2 years to make their case solid.

D Gallop would know a rough approx of TV rights for QLD sides v the Bears from last expansion round and has still done everything to encourage the Bears......why?? Obviously because TV rights make up only a part of the equation in bid selection, and the other parts of the equation make the Bears attractive.

The problem the SEQ bids have is that the Titans are in difficulties and Searle has one ear of David Gallop (the other is the Bunnies these days). The last thing the Titans need is another competitor. Do the NRL want 5 failed Gold Coast franchises under their belt?

If the Bears were going to be so bad for the game as some here seem to think, Gallop would surely have told them to GAGF by now.

I have a theory, and its just a theory no proof, that the NRL saw the Bears and Reds expansion efforts and thought well we have an opportunity to expand by two teams. As these two built the momentum and the media started to big up expansion other bidders came out of the woodwork and suddenly the NRL was faced with a choice/dilemma. It may prefer a WA and Q'land team but early on only had the option of a WA and CC team. Now that there are other possibilities it is extending the expansion timeline to see if they can get their acts together enough to oust the Bears bid. If non of the Q'land bids are credible then I have no doubt they will say CC and WA, if a Q'land bid can get credibility then I fear for the CC bid.

I don't think anyone thinks they will be bad for the game, some feel unneccesary it would seem.

The results from the 5000-6000 respondents on the NRL website poll on expansion.

Central Coast Bears 33%, Central QLD 33%, Perth 24%, Wellington 7%, Brisbane 4%.

Only surprise is the strong CQLD result. The rest were as to be expected.
