Although Parra and Penrith share boarders, a merger between the two is massively un-needed.

Most people are pushing for mergers so that other teams get stronger or so that there are spots for expansion areas. They are terrible reasons for mergers.

If the people of Penrith are struggling to support the Panthers, a Parramatta Panthers aren't going to do any better.

The two clubs can be super powers on their own.

Bears suck, bluetongue stadium sucks, 6000 members? Is that all?

You guys have sh*t sponsors, you have no real business men, just ex footy heads and a mortgage dude. You have no support from Major TV networks and offer the game nothing nationally And offer nothing we haven't already got.

I think the last few posts are trying to project forward and see what clubs could find themselves in similar positions to Balmain and Wests in the late 1990s - comparitively poor, and struggling to compete against the richer, more succesful clubs in the area.

The best case is where you have two weak teams merging like the Wests Tigers - because it makes the partnership more even (compare Wests position in the merger with Illawarra's in theirs).

while it might not be necessary for Penrith and Parramatta to merge, as far as team identity goes it's easy to manage.

Penrith have chopped and changed their team colours & jersey constantly, yet Parramatta have made blue and gold a very powerful brand.

And the "Eel" isn't as integral to the brand as Parramatta, or "Parra". It's one of the things I admire about that club.

Thanks for the laugh! How easy to respond to this one!!

1. Bluetongue is widely regarded as one of, if not the best suburban ground to watch from and with it easily able to have a tier added at the noirthern end, we'll have close to 25,000 capacity with amazing views over Brisbane Waters.
2. Our sponsor range is diverse, fully banked unlike others and with the major sponsor cum owner working in the most secure of all industries, finance, our financial model is ahead of the other bidders. Don't worry about the businessmen - aside from Ken Sayer, we have some major corporations that make the other bid teams look like minnows behind the bid advising and mentoring). Plus we have the support of every politiitical heavyweight on the north shore and Central Coast.
3. WIN and Prime, subsidiaries of 9 & 7 ARE sponsors! Channel 10 are also very supportive and their Thursday Night Live program have promised to help every way possible, so we cover all the networks.
4. ANY fan with an inkling of the games past is aware of the Bears story. With supporters all around the country due to being a 104 year brand with multi-generational support, plus the support of most objective league fans (refer any expansion poll and bookmakers odds on expansion). We were many people's second team and will be again. Our return will heal old wounds and reconnect with all the 1000's (D Gallop says 40,000) who walked away from NRL following the Bears removal. The Bears return brings closure, dignity and honour to the game.

You wouldn't understand, being unfamiliar with the last two concepts.

Don't worry, the Bears are clear favourites for expansion with the people whose living revolves around getting it right - the bookies. Those close to the CC bid and the bookies know whats going on, and its all good news for the Bears. Keep signing up memberships, that's all we have to do from here as all our boxes have been ticked.

There is just one problem. Too many teams in NSW. Expansion means expanding outside NSW. Like Perth and SEQ for instance.

So it's expansion into S.E.QLD region where teams already exist but not expansion into the the CC where no team exists? lol

I know this is a difficult question to answer, but in your opinion do a large number of Central Coast fans travel to rugby league matches currently?

They have teams to the North and South not all that far away. Most Dragons fans travel that distance to home games, and Bulldogs fans travel in big numbers to away games that distance away.

No because there is no Central Coast team for the residents to travel to see. The odd fan of another team might do it currently. The beauty of the bid is that once the Central Coast Bears are up, people from the CC will travel to see them but with an established Bears supporter base already in place it's guaranteed the old guard will travel away frequently. Add that to the local fans of the CC and you have a very healthy away crowd.

QLD has a big share of old Bears fans too and I have personally bumped into many of them during the last few seasons when I've gone to games at either Skilled or Suncorp. When asked the same question (will they travel to see Bears game in QLD?) they answered a big resounding YES. When I asked them (will they travel into NSW, Sydney, CC to see them play) They answered, they will try to catch as many NSW based games as possible.

With the aforementioned old Bears guard, CC locals and interstate fans, I can assure you that we have the potential to have big away crowds around Sydney and in QLD. While the home crowds should be packed out most games.

Either way we're going to increase the crowd and TV viewer numbers. CC residents will tavel once their home team is up and running.

See this is why it's annoying for everyone when we talk to CCB supporters. One could hold a gun to your head and you still would not admit that your area is jam packed with teams.

The game is built around regions, not cities. Then when talking about the regions, we have to take the population numbers on board. Sydney many teams, CC has none and the population of the CC has the numbers to support a team.

Is Geelong Melbourne? Is Gold Coast Brisbane? Is Central QLD North Queensland? No they are regions in their own right and therefore if the consumer demand and corporate demand is there then it would be foolish not to look into putting a franchise there. If the NRL, in particular David Gallop, has come out saying the CC is it's own region and deserves a team eventually, then who are you or anyone else to say otherwise?

Thursday Night Live has been cancelled.

It's just been replaced by another show on ONE. It doesn't matter though, the main sports dudes who run those shows are very big CCBears supporters. I think the new show has even got Benny Ikin, can't be too bad.

You should notice that I am a cowboys supporter. A fair few of us have to travel 3> hours to get to the game. From Central Coast you could reach several teams from Gosford in that time, so if there IS demand then they are already being taken care of.

Funny thing is that I actually support a CCB bid.

Not before Brisbane2 though. The NRL needs them. Alot.

You can't compare it though because the Cowboys have a team that people can travel to see. While the demand for a CC side is very very strong, there is no local team so people aren't gonna travel to an empty stadium. Once the team is in then the demand will be satisfied and people will travel. It's abit difficult to travel away for a team someone supports half arsed because they don't have their own to support properly.

It's guaranteed that when the Central Coast Bears are up then the real fun begins. The potential hub is enough to suggest we are going to have a big support core and patrons will travel to and from for games away or home.

There is just one problem. Too many teams in NSW. Expansion means expanding outside NSW. Like Perth and SEQ for instance.

Once more time for the dummies! There are no teams representing the CCDRL or the NSDRL in the NRL. These two orgs plus the CRL fully endorse the CC bid to give their kids a pathway to the NRL. By reconnecting with old fans and offerign a team to an area with none it IS expansion.

Agree Perth or CQLD are also expansion. Even Ipswich at a pinch could be called expansion if you look west of Ipswich as a catchment. The one team currently bidding thats NOT expansion is Brisbane2 - by putting a team in to cover an area already covered by an existing team the closest term is dilution.

I agree another Brisbane team will happen eventually - D Gallop has said its on the cards, though he favours the Ipswich corridor.

The problem Brisbane2 has is that the Broncos are the goose that laid the golden egg for the NRL. Who is going to risk the powerful cash cow that is the Broncos, and destabilise the newly formed but politically powerful Titans just when the Suns are launching?! The NRL needs a very strong Broncos to help subsidise weaker teams.

Sames as going into a heartland area without a team, like the Central Coast, with the model they have achieved, will help subsidise teams.

As if that wasn't enough of an issue, News Ltd have a legal obligation to protect the interests of their shareholders. In part owning the Broncos, any exit from the NRL will come with strings attached, protecting Storm and the Broncos. They don't have to hide this fact as its a legal obligation. At best, there will be a short caveat excluding new entrants for say 5-10 years - at worst, the caveat may extend till their first/last rights media arrangement expires in 2027.

Have the NRL said they will not expand within NSW?

If not, bobmar is full of sh*te.
