Changes NSW must make.

Outside of Channel Nine telling you how good Moylan is, can you please tell me how he is a dominant player in any capacity.

Penrith's play is rarely generated from him outside of the occasionally tap on from a backline movement. However, he is frequently outmuscled by defensive lines, so much so that he rarely actually runs the ball (which makes him even easier to defend).

In game one, he had the perfect opportunity to sneak through a gap and score, but instead tried a pass to Mansour which was knocked down. On top of that, he is shaky under the high ball.

I don't think Tedesco is the saviour that will magically make NSW win, but I think he poses more questions of the Queensland defence even if he is a biscuit.

NSW key problem is the speed of the ruck. Service from dummy half is already slow with Farah (never seen a hooker who apparently can't pass straight from the ground), but then the game plan tries to use forwards as ball players at first receiver. By the time the halves and outside backs get the ball, there is no space to work with.

You don't pick a player as talented as Moylan and then dump him after a couple of losses. Not unless you want to extend Queensland's dominance for another decade. What we need to do is move on the older players who have failed repeatedly (Gallen, Bird, and Farah in particular), and get more talented youngsters in there to build a team for the future. A revolving door policy of selecting one gun youngster, then dumping them for another one, will never build a team that can actually compete.

Well if that's the case I'm assuming you want to keep Dylan walker too?

With Dugan now fit, you'd have to think it will be back to the bench at best for Walker.

He seemed to try to take charge of the game, maybe emboldened by his success against Penrith, but most things he touched turned to shit. There's no doubt there is talent there somewhere, but also a lot of youthful exuberance.

I could be wrong but I'm certain Maloney did the grubber for jennings

I just checked and it was Maloney, so the one good thing you're trying to say Moylan did in 2 whole games he didn't even do.

The chip kick that Jennings dropped mate. That was Moylan and it was class

I would never have picked him in the first place. Moylan, Tedesco, Coote, Bird, Cartwright, Frizell, Graham, the Trbojevic brothers: these guys are the kind of players I'm thinking of. Walker is not in the same class as any of them, but he does have some talent, and at centre he isn't a complete waste of a selection.

What sucks is that 4 of our best players are fullbacks, and it's impossible to fit them all in. You can play Dugan at centre and Moylan frankly is a half at Penrith despite the number on his back, but that still leaves one of Tedesco and Coote out in the cold. Even then, one of those two on the wing in place of Fergo would be an improvement.

What really, really sucks is some of these players could already have a series ot two under their belts, and we'd have a much clearer picture of which are the answer, but the Blues selectors and Daley have no sense of planning for the future whatsoever. Chuck in Blake Austin in the form he was in last year. Graham has been an obvious selection for 3 years. Maloney and Reynolds should have been the halves from 2013 onwards.

For the record, I want Tedesco in the team. I just think it would be madness to bring him in at the expense of Moylan.

Wow. Tigers fans really hate Moylan. Or atleast Vic Mackey does.

Trying to use a club game played 2 days after Origin as a reason for him not being any good. 2 days after his Origin performance he still managed to setup a try. Create 2 linebreaks. Make 10 tackles and have 0 errors and pemalties to his name.

In Origin he was also our only back with no penalties or errors to his name. He clearly didn't play anywhere near his potential in either game. But he was also nowhere near as bad as being made out.

I can only imagine how badly he would get slammed if he made a mistake like Tedesco did yesterday in trying to tip it on and instead setting up an opposition try. The class of those plays is where Moylan is better. Tedesco is a far more damaging ball runner. I think there should be room for both of them in the team.

Even Jarryd Hayne had games at fullback where he couldn't create anything for NSW. They are horrible at getting the players who need the ball an opportunity at the right time.

People are way over analysing this situation...

Who's the better fullback? Pick that guy. Simple.

Vossy said it best yesterday when he stated that "if NSW don't pick Tedesco then the selectors aren't doing their job."

I for one don't want to see Moylan dragged back 40m ingoal again from fullback. Put him at 5/8 with Jimmy at half if Reynolds is out.

I think its only fair Moylan gets as long as Mitch Pearce to prove himself, at least 4 or 5 series more.

.

Yawn.

The majority of fans wanting tedesco at fullback aren't tigers fans.

I don't see why me pointing out a few measured reasons for me not wanting Moylan as my NSW fullback mean I hate him. As I said go back and check my posts in the NSW team thread. Even before Tedesco got injured against souths I said Moylan or coote should be in the team ahead of him as I thought NSW needed a ball playing fullback. Yes I'm obviously full of hate for the him.

I still cant believe people are in here saying Moylan isn't involved Penriths attack, his try assist and linebreak assist numbers are as good as any half in the comp but yeah the guy is hardly involved in our attack. Even Friday where he was apparently 'invisible' he spent half the game at first receiver and was in everything and created two tries and almost a couple more. If you want Tedesco picked than fair enough there are plenty of legit arguments for that without having to make shit up about Moylan.

Moylan is a fantastic player. The best ball playing fullback in the comp.

It's just that Teddy is better and certainly more suited to fullback in Origin as he's much stronger, safer under the high ball and better defensively.

Now Moylan might well have a big rep career ahead of him at 5/8. But I can't see it at fullback because Teddy has his, and everyone else's number.

Until Latrell hits puberty ;-)

On a serious note, I agree with what you say, Tedesco is the best player NSW has available at the moment, let alone the best fullback.

So how did Tedesco go yesterday?

In the second half, when his team had 65% of the ball courtesy of some very odd decisions, he looked very dangerous at times. He scored a try that showcased his outstanding footwork. In this regard he looks a bit Darius-like. He also made a fine last ditch tackle that saved a try, although the refs missed him knocking the ball into touch.

In the first half, when his side was under the pump, he made a couple of tackles, but that's about it. Even when Wests appeared to be competing in the first ten minutes, Tedesco was not sighted.

Tedesco's cheer squad (including his coach) are saying what a great game he had, so I'm having to assume this was as good as it gets.

So he's very dangerous in a side with an absolute glut of possession, but invisible in a side under pressure. Is this really what NSW need at this point?

Obviously it's not my call but be prepared to be disappointed if all this pushing is rewarded by him being selected in game 3. I'd suggest work on a few things with a view to next year.

Even if Moylan is dropped due to poor form (I don't think he's been quite at his best since he came back from injury to be honest), I do think Coote is the more complete fullback. But I hasten to add, I am not the selectors.

Feel free to name all the fullbacks who would be dominating when their team has 33% of the ball in a half.

I think Coote and Moylan would both have been far more involved than Tedesco was in the first half yesterday.

Hayne would have made 10 try saving tackles and ran the length of the field, beating 10 tackles. If he was in the mood.

Picking Tedesco is not a reflection of Moylan ability. It just means he's the second best option.

People, mainly selectors, need to get past the fear of 'dropping' players. It doesn't mean they are shit, it means they aren't as good as the guy replacing them. Tedesco is a better fullback than Moylan, ergo he should be picked. How Moylan tales that is his problem - he can drop his head and play like he didn't deserve to be picked in the first place or he can rise to the challenge and make himself available for another spot.

Or not. But if it was Origin 1 next week, Tedesco would be picked over Moylan. That should be the case in Origin 3 too.
