But as of 5pm the network relented citing a “good opportunity to experiment” with a live showing.

probably always their intention as f**k all people watch 9 and most would not be aware of the late change

I can't believe i agree with you but i'm 100% sure that was always their intention. The less time they have to advertise the game obviously the less people that will watch it. They've done exactly the same thing before and will no doubt do it again. They'll throw a couple of token ads on down here but they won't be seen by anywhere near the amount of people had they started doing so early in the week. f**king scum they are.

they'll also promote it during the AFL Footy Show which is pointless as the people watching that will be watching the AFL final on at the same time.

It's exactly their intention. When the revolution comes, they will be first against the wall to be shot.

My advice to you and every storm supporter is to seize the opportunity and get as many Victorians watching as possible to ensure metered houses get covered. You should start spreading the word.

Channel 9 are a disgrace.

Showing games as an afterthought is pathetic.

Compare the build up the pink poofs get for their FTA matches in Sydney compared to poor old Storm in melb.

Storm v Knights to be broadcast live into Melbourne

NRL Thu, Sep 08, 2011 - 7:13 PM

Melbourne’s return to the Telstra Premiership Finals has attracted live Television coverage in Victoria.

The Nine Network today committed to telecast Sunday’s Storm v Newcastle finals match at AAMI Park live across the eastern sea-board.

“There’s a lot of excitement building around the Telstra Premiership Finals and it’s important people in Melbourne get to see their team in action,” NRL Chief Executive Mr David Gallop said today.

“It’s already been a big week for the Storm at the Dally M’s and the commitment from Nine to go live with the game is another important recognition.

“It is in keeping with a long-term commitment Nine has given to assist the Storm’s coverage during finals games and their support will be appreciated by Melbourne sports audiences.”

The Storm v Newcastle match kicks off at 4:00pm on Sunday.

what has Gallop been smoking :?

He's gotta say it like that. He's being diplomatic.

why does he? Why does he have to be diplomatic? He should have been in the media all season slating Ch9 for its poor NRL coverage and pressuring them to get the gameon in all parts of the country at a decent time. That is his job!

Oh well at least its the first win of the battle that fans have started with 9 in recent weeks.

And hopefully this occurs:

On Monday, league chief executive David Gallop guaranteed all of Storm's finals would be shown live in the local market.

But that may be only 1 other game should Melbourne win on Sunday.

Showing finals live in the home market is the absolute least 9 can do, especially if they're being played interstate.

However that game will be at 7:30pm prime-time either a Friday or Saturday night. Will be interesting to see what happens.

giddyup is a tosser. after 13 years he comes out and says he has a committment to Storm fans by showing the games live into Melbourne. he doesn`t care about Storm or manly supporters.

I have to agree with that.

It should be known from the outset of the season, it should be in any tv-guide when it's written and every executive/manager at the network and every single Storm fan should automatically know - any Channel 9 game involving the Storm must be screened in the same timeslot as Sydney & Brisbane either on the main or a digital channel - or potentially earlier (if live) whereso the need dictates it.

We should not have to fight for it. Until Gallop achieves that, he has failed on this front.

now the merkins at 9 are showing Union on GEM again according to their facebook

Wide World of Sports
Channel Nine confirms that tonight's opening match of the 2011 Rugby World Cup between New Zealand and Tonga will be broadcast at these times:

Victoria: LIVE on GEM – 6.30pm
SA: LIVE on GEM – 6.00pm
WA: LIVE on GEM – 4.30pm

NSW and Qld: Delayed on Nine – 9.45pm

the merkins wouldn't do that for the NRL finals though

Union is also live ad free on Fox Sports

no way in hell should 9 get the rights to League again

Well done Channel 9.

The Today Show started with AFL news again.

We have to get rid of these pricks.
