However that game will be at 7:30pm prime-time either a Friday or Saturday night. Will be interesting to see what happens.
No flogball on that weekend in those timespots....
They'll need a new excuse.

Well done Channel 9.
The Today Show started with AFL news again.
We have to get rid of these pricks.

It's a nationally syndicated show so what do you expect? Of course they're going to lead with AFL news as whether you like it or not there are AFL sides in the five major cities in Australia as opposed to just league having 3/5 so AFL news is more relevant to the broader public.
More than half the population is in QLD and NSW you twit and you'd think 9 being the official RL rights holder would hold a bit of sway for our game.
Obviously not.

It doesn't matter. When it comes to television ratings it comes down to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in that order. The fact that AFL have clubs in each of those cities and the NRL only have a club in three od those five cities means the AFL will take precedence in any nationally broadcasted programs and news bulletins by any channel.
I'm sorry but I disagree.
If you own the rights to a sport and there's a game on either that night or upcoming weekend, then you push it with your news. It's pretty much free advertising for your own network.
By building up the AFL, they're basically saying "Hey, watch Channel 7".
If that's the case, why does SBS run with soccer all the time and why does the ABC chop and change different sports they start off with?
You can argue it that way and it's a reasonable argument. But television programs have different producers and are organised independently to one another. Just because Nine have the rights to rugby league as opposed to the AFL doesn't mean the Today Show producers are going to put the NRL. We're talking an entire industry here and as much as the NRL is a large part of Channel Nine there's other factors there's a lot of other factors they'd have to consider.
I can tell you that it's a common television practice. How many times have you seen a "news" segment at 6pm about Dancing With The Stars on 7? Or Masterchef exclusive on First At 5. That's just the blatant stuff. This is pretty much universal practice across the television industry. It's all cross-promotion.
The fact that 9 fail to take full advantage of the opportunity to advertise their own programming is just one example of many of the utter stupidity at that network.
Their house isn't in order. It's a shambles.
I know what you mean but it's a bit different with sport because they would have to market the NRL into areas not familiar with the game whereas at least with the AFL they know they've got a guarenteed audience from every city.

It's no different with sport. Cross promotion is cross promotion.
Fact is the Today Show broadcasts into a regional area in NSW & QLD of about 5-6 million, almost 25% of the country.
And a major percentage of them couldn't give a f**k about Collingwood.
It's a weak excuse not to promote your own programming. It's just bad management.
