Are people bored of NFL because New England are around the mark every year for the past 15?
Or NBA and at least one of Steph Curry/LeBron James/Kahwi Leonard featuring in every finals series?
Or Man City/Chelsea winning EPL every season?

Yes those aspects of NFL and NBA are boring, same as with college football Alabama and Clemson being dominant are boring people.
I think last season the NBA seemed totally boring and completely inevitable that GSW would win the NBA again (they didn't because even GSW were bored) and that affected peoples interest big time.
Those competitions are crazily successful and profitable and can afford to be boring I don't think the NRL has that luxury because it leaves the door open for AFL and NSW/Qld is way less obsessed with NRL than America is with American football anyway.

I would suggest that most people wouldn't give a toss about the Roosters or actually despise them and not want to see them up the top year in year out and now winning it and going for a back to back double just makes the whole thing boring and crap, no matter how professionally run or great their players may or may not be. They are just disliked by most NRL fans for the obvious reasons that most here have posted about ad nauseam.

As for Melbourne, most me included, liked Melbourne when they first came into the competition and were glad and even stoked when they won their maiden premiership against the Dragons. It was fantastic for the expansion of the competition and benefit of the game as a whole. Then under the Bellamy era they unearthed some amazing talent that were awesome to watch in the earlier years. But then they started started to cheat and hold on to the best talent and accumulate even more while everyone else had to shed and supposedly play by the rules.

However the real turning point for me and I suppose for the general league fan is that they never admitted to their cheating or really apologise for cheating so methodically and systematically. In fact they have gone the complete opposite and still to this day feel and state that they won those premierships and everyone else can go get stuffed. Perfect example and evidence of this is the jersey fiasco that the ARLC did nothing about this very year.

So I still want Melbourne to do well for the games sake and all, but until every last one of the cheating players and coach leave that organisation I for one will always not give a toss about any so called achievements that they think that they have accomplished. It has all been tainted. All of it, because we all know that players like their captain would not be playing for them today if they weren't cheating at the time and maybe the Gold Coast would be a juggernaut today instead of being on the chopping block. Sliding doors I suppose.

So add these to disliked teams together as the main title contender again and you can see the dis-satisfaction of many NRL fans at this years competition. Hopefully in the not to distant future we will see Canberra or New Castle, Wests, Souths or even my team Parra hold up the winners trophy. Then the feel good stories will make an appearance again. Till then if teams like Mel, Roosters, Canterbury, Manly and Broncos dominate the comp it will feel boring and unappealing to tens of thousands of league supporters.

We're supposed to beleive the Lions make more revenue than the Broncos who have bigger crowds, more members and sell more merchandise?
Looks like more fudged figures from AFL land.
There was a report a few years ago that had the Penrith Panthers as the most valuable sporting brand in the country but thats only because they have 6 or 7 Leagues clubs with over 150,000 members in total. Not hard the twist numbers to make something look bigger than it is.

This is football club generated revenue, not other sources of income such as LC's or investment portfolios. re The Lions a big chunk of that revenue came from their AFL grant ($24mill)
For anyone who believe crowds are not that important I suggest you take a look and compare football revenues between the codes!

f**k I wish you would...

And, no, just no. AFL is unwatchable in my opinion - As stated, I'd just show more interest in NBA and NFL.

Kind of weird that you'd follow clubs on other side of world that you'll never get chance to watch in the flesh but abandon your own club that was playing in this country and you could get to see in your city 4-5 times a year and if got to a GF you could see them on your door step lift the trophy?

How would I have abandoned my club? In the given hypothetical scenario, my club no longer exists...

They would still exist, but would be based in another city but still playing under same brand, colours in same comp and due to the Sydney centric nature of the comp youd still get to see them play in your home city a number of time including in the big show if they got to the GF.

Fair enough but its still weird you'd follow a club on other side of world but wouldnt follow your club on other side of country.

No, they wouldn't - As I stated in my earlier post, I consider relocation as creating a NEW team - I support the PENRITH Panthers, that's my team - If they relocated and called themselves the Perth Panthers (just an example), then that's not the Penrith Panthers, is it? - I lived in or around that area for a long time, have a lot of connections to the area - Not being a dick or anything, but I don't think you get that aspect of supporting an NRL team.

But as stated above, it wouldn't be MY team anymore...

Yes I do get it, Ive been a life long supporter of my club in England and still do all I can to support them so I get the attachment. But I love the game as well so would find it hard not to have a club to follow in RL, hence why I adopted Storm in '99 when I landed on these shores. I love going to live sport so tried to become an WC Eagles fan but found AFL a poor spectacle compared to RL so gave up on that and followed the Storm and and local RL. I couldn't imagine walking away from the game but do get why youd be pssed at losing your club from your area even if it did keep its brand etc.

Have a f**kin sook.

Seriously, the whinge about the roosters and Melbourne in this thread is pathetic.

Other clubs need to get better, not the other way around.

Oh and lol at souths being a feel good story

Truth hurts champ. But then again you wouldn't know the truth if it bit you on the pointy bit, being a Rorter fan.

Whether people would abandon their team or RL or whatever, if relocated/excluded is kind of irrelevant.

Firstly, half the people that reckon they would give it away would be sucked back in some way or another when they realise that Union and AFL are trash sports anyway.

Secondly, If this was to ever happen, it would be done with research and planning that supports that there are more fans and sponsors to be gained in the new location (over time), than lost in the old.
If you or I were to give it away, it would be acceptable collateral damage.

What truth would that be?

Fans of basketcase clubs like Parra repeatedly admitting that their own club has been so inept for so long that they've resorted to asking the League to cripple or completely remove the successful teams in the futile hope that this will magically transport Parra to the top, despite knowing deep down that your club's infighting and lack of vision would still see you fail anyway

That truth?

that was kind of my point, the Lions are not making more revenue from football operations than the Broncos. So now we know the Lions high revenue is because they get a $24 million hand out from the Head Office.
