Throw this into the mix:

15 2011 NAB Cup: Grand Final: Essendon V Collingwood Seven 556,000 (National) 12,000 (Syd) 409,000 (Melb)1,000 (Bris) 84,0009(Perth) 50,000 (Adel)

12k in Sydney and 1 k in Brisbane. Proves that showing foreign footy prime time works in new markets.

C9 will say that their strategy works for them. Hard to argue against.

Again, go to your Pay TV network and whinge at them.

The only thing that proves is that nobody in NSW and QLD gives a f*ck about AFL. That says nothing about the NRL's potential in Melbourne and Perth (Moreso Perth).

harsh to judge those AFL numbers in all fairness though... do they take into account digital numbers? i know that by the time Prime7 showed the NAB cup final in Canberra at 1am, it had already been shown and finished on 7mate.

if it was the case in brisbane and sydney, or course no one watched 7's coverage.

Didn't even show the opening weekend at all on Ch9 in Perth!

That is tragic. But it shows that even if the Reds can ge the piss weak television ratings the Swans & Lions both get how much further ahead the NRL would be in TV ratings.

We own the AFL with 1 hand tied behind our backs.

I can't wait for the day we are fighting a fair battle.

I got a call from the NRL yesterday saying they were forwarding my letter (in a previous post in this thread) on to Gallop and putting it on their records. They said thanks for the effort in writing a letter and that it will be used as evidence when negotiating the next TV rights deal. They also said the receive a lot of complaints from SA, WA and Victoria.

No response from Channel 9 South Australia as yet though.

The NRL always attempt to take what the fans want on board at all times, just sometimes you can't please everybody.

Good work on writing the letter mate, good work and great form by the NRL to respond.

Got a reponse letter from Channel 9 Adelaide yesterday. Can't say I'm surpised but still disappointing never the less.

I'll post what it says when I get home but basically it said They've tried live coverage in the past and does not rate. He said "Like it or not South Australia is an AFL state" and NRL will never rate.

The bloke never mentioned when they last attempted live coverage or that they now have 3 channels to choose from or if repeated movies or repeated sitcoms rate better than NRL.

I intend on replying to his letter and again including the NRL in the correspondance.

keep up the good fight, jerkface..

we lobby channel 9 pretty hard over here in melbourne too...

nothing sh*tes me more than when they do things like screen crocodile dundee II instead of a live rugby league semi final...
