And they didn't disappoint at the Winter Olympics or Athens Olympics afterwards either. All brilliant!

Nine f**king suck.

No Football and No Handball FOR THE ENTIRE OLYMPIC GAMES!

My two favourite Olympic sports. I hope they lose the NRL (I already hoped it but still), they go into bankruptcy and die.

No football is ridiculous.

It shouldnt be in the Olympic games anyway. You can watch soccer every weekend of the year, Olympic games come around once every 4 years and it should be primarily reserved for individual events that OG are known for. Apart from basketball, where Olympic games have prestige, none of those team sports should be shown.

Seriously, if Nine put the soccer on, they would shed most of their viewership. Especially as Australia mens and womens team both missed out. An under-23 tournament for a niche sport without Australia participating? Taking the piss. Fox have like 8 dedicated channels I think, so you'll probably find it there.

Personally I love the Olympics for how they switch from different events ever 5-10 minutes, and you get to experience the whole thing going on at once. I remember in 08 when they had Australia Argentina playing at 9pm. You're basically stuck for 90 minutes. Didnt even feel like the Olympics. I would have been outraged if I wasnt a fan.

Football generates 30% of Olympic revenue yet Nine show none of it.

There is no interest in it from an Australian point of view. No teams present. Taking up time that could be dedicated to events we do have participants in. Not to mention casual viewers would turn off.

Makes no sense why 9 would show any soccer. Dont think you can put it down to anti-sokka this time. The British public aren't interested, so why would we be? If they're treating it as a joke, why should we treat it any different?

I'd put money on there being several nuffy sports with no Australian competitors being shown over the course of the telecast. How often do Australian viewers get a chance to see highest quality soccer on FTA? Never.

Speaking of soccer has Great Britain ever fielded a team in the Olympic tournaments? Cause the countries that make up Great Britain play on the world stage as seperate entities. Similar thing happened with cricket at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, West Indies were split up.

"West Indies" is a flag of convenience for cricket and that's all.

"Great Britain" is not a country either.

The “United Kingdom” of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the official sovereign state although most see England, Scotland, Wales as their own countries.

To answer the question, I don’t think GB has ever entered a soccer team before, at least not in recent memory. I don’t think they even attempt to qualify but the host gets automatic qualifying in all events so they entered a team. They regularly enter as GB in other team sports such as Hockey though.
