Dragons stripped us for numbers several times last night. In most cases the wingers came in because they were facing an overlap anyway and so tried to cut it off. Nightingale bombed three and there were two or three other cases where cut out balls didn’t find the mark.
Basically means our defense hasn’t adjusted at all from last year out wide where teams were scoring at will by just running around us.
If a team as clunky and uncohesive as St George can expose our flanks, I shudder to think what Melbourne will do. Actually, I don’t need to wonder what Melbourne will do. Just need to watch the replay of what they did to us last year.
The one play that every NRL team including us, has down pat is the second man shift to the outside with the fullback chiming in and on the basis of what I witnessed last night, we will struggle to defend it.
Nightingale is just about the slowest winger in the comp and he should have had a field day. The likes of Addo-Carr, Vunivalu, Bevan French and any other outside back with pace that can finish will genuinely trouble us unless we fix our structure.
