Charity Shield 2018 - Rabbitohs vs Dragons

Dragons stripped us for numbers several times last night. In most cases the wingers came in because they were facing an overlap anyway and so tried to cut it off. Nightingale bombed three and there were two or three other cases where cut out balls didn’t find the mark.

Basically means our defense hasn’t adjusted at all from last year out wide where teams were scoring at will by just running around us.

If a team as clunky and uncohesive as St George can expose our flanks, I shudder to think what Melbourne will do. Actually, I don’t need to wonder what Melbourne will do. Just need to watch the replay of what they did to us last year.

The one play that every NRL team including us, has down pat is the second man shift to the outside with the fullback chiming in and on the basis of what I witnessed last night, we will struggle to defend it.

Nightingale is just about the slowest winger in the comp and he should have had a field day. The likes of Addo-Carr, Vunivalu, Bevan French and any other outside back with pace that can finish will genuinely trouble us unless we fix our structure.

Nope, not the whole case at all.

Yes, notice him a number of times doing it in the Wigan trail as well. If he holds his line and works on parts of his defence then he would make a great first grade player I just have him behind a number of outside backs at the moment

The one where Chricton scored anyway?
The pass to Chricton was pretty sketchy but credit where credit due. Cook played well. But there’s still a lot of kinks in his game to iron out.
Let’s see how he goes in the regular season
That's the one, Cookie didn't know AJ was there, they need to rectify that.

It's a team defence problem not just a Kennar defence problem.

I think he knew AJ was there but he decided not to go with that option as there were Dragons looming up on the inside.

Oh and sorry Southy, but I actually agree with Rsag. Kennar did rush in a few times last night when he didn't need to. That's something to work on.

I think he means if the teamslides to cover not leaving gaps then the winger dosent have to run up trying to cover and stop attack.

That would never happen if players keep the line on defence and move together. Players who rush out of the line create those gaps in the defence lines because others have to cover for them we saw that with Kennar last night

f**k, the season hasn’t even started yet and the doomsday, supercoaches have started already. Let’s run a pool on how many rounds before “they’re all duds” get typed.

Win, loose or draw, Im just looking forward to watching A new brand of Bunny football. Sure we’ll f**k up here and there. Sure we haven’t got the roster of the elite teams. But it’s early days in a long rebuild, i for one am proud to wear the rose coloured glasses this year. Our window is just opening and I can see 22 in next 2-4 years.

Life’s too short to stress over mistakes made in a trial match, played in 30deg heat, many playing their first games in ages, with a reserves team in the 2nd half, that WE F’n WON!!

I tend to agree. The winger always copes the blame, sometimes it's a fair call, sometimes not.
At some point he needs to do something other than just stick to the sideline , otherwise they just score inside.
I haven't played first grade so I'm not sure what he's instructed to do .
I always stayed out , but at some point you need to shut the play down if you can.

Did anyone notice on the long break that Cookie made that he was unaware that AJ was to his left, AJ would have been in under the posts, the try almost went begging.
It was still tight for options.....

I still can't criticise him...

What I'll criticise is our wingers worry me...

After Gagai, GI and AJ my next obvious first choice for the wing ahead of Jennings and Kennar is Hunt.... no brainer to me..

Well what has Seibs done about it???

He was our defensive coach last season and he failed at that...

It's all good to say pressure and efforts and throw the ball around but defence comes first....

The big thing members want fixed is our defence....

That comes first and foremost and I wait what Seibs has done re this plus if he leaves Hunt out round 1 that's a bad decision..;

That first try was just as much Gagai’s fault as it was Kennar’s. Kennar probably shouldn’t have rushed it but Gagai should’ve made that tackle as well. I would be placing Kennar outside GI if I was Seibold. Gagai needs a really solid defender outside of him which I believe Hunt is.

Yet Seibs can't see that....

If I meet Seibs this year that's the first thing I'll ask..... so many members know Hunt is solid and yet hasn't even been given a chance on a wing for a bit in the trials.... poor poor coaching.....

We've only had two trials with a whole bunch of new players and our regular halfback missing and yet we've managed to win both, last night we only had 44% of possession and still got the trophy, so why all the panic!

Nah I think Hunt is a higher quality centre than Jennings that’s the main reason why.
