Lol@meltdown after a trial. Classic.
Obviously you didn't listen to what the coach said he wanted from "this trial" compared to "last trial".
The coach made a big statement what we needed to bring and that didn't happen.
So the point you miss is that the coach keeps promising and fails to deliver and in amongst that changes nothing.
You must be his twin because you are both useless, so time for you to cut the umbilical chord and try to make it on your own because your going further down hill just like our team.

It was a trial.
Have to build hype for tv. Have a breather, sit the next few plays out if you know what I mean

mary has learnt to do one thing well in his time as coach
lose games we should win
you would think mary would have worked out by now how to beat a top 8 team
as the coach he is not able or prepared to change

For mine, individual performances and positional selections are of lesser a concern than he make up of the bench and Mary's use of the interchange.
TBH, it was not of concern to me mainly due to the nature of the game being unlimited interchange and the need to get some minutes into the pigs legs. His general use of interchange last season however, was poor and I ma not expecting any improvement with that.

It’s a f**king boys club
Offensive coach - Hornby
Defensive coach - young
Head coach Mary

CV of achievements that demonstrate why these three are in their roles

.........

Dean Young has even less coaching ability than his dad and only got the gig because no-one at the club can stand up to Craig Young. The scary thing is that Deano wants to be our next coach.
You all blame Mary for everything but the Young family have been f**king us up for years and years and years and look set to continue.
Our best defensive effort in recent years was in Mary's first full year as coach 2015 ( 4th best ), after that Young steps in.

I get the "its only a trial" and that can explain a lot of things ie cohesion in attack, poor execution of the right play etc

but some of the mistakes made were fundamental instinct based mistakes .. the most glaing being Aitken tackling Hunts players allowing the overlap on the right. This is something that has happened with regular consistency over Aitkens time in 1st grade and should be fixed. But again his failure to read a left edge sweep (curiously the only play we run in attack) is jarring.

Its been 12 months since that eels game and in that time zero improvement in this aspect.

Not good enough from Aitken, not good enough from Young, not good enough from Mary.

He injured his calf after falling further down the pecking order of starting players.
Yeah Lomax was pretty good so I guess Mann is now 2nd in line for the R centre position behind Lomax. But of course the Master coach will go for the worst option in Aitken.

Can't be bothered reading through the comments here but I assume after last night the sky is still falling...
Yep the circle jerk continues. Meltdown central.

Have a read by all means. If you understand footy you'll have a good laugh

Although Flo had a bad game for his standards I believe he was entitled to at least one. The try he bombed when he put his hand on the sideline I can almost excuse due to the arm he got across the neck. The dropped ball over the line was unlike him. His fellow backline players however were much worse. MacDonald is not a defender and just keeps getting found out. He is slow and really only effective 5 metres out from the line. Why we persist with Lafai amazes me. He just does not seem to be aware of what’s going on, the majority of the time. How many times did the backline look so crooked, just not straight compared to Souths. That’s where the yards, other than through the middle, we’re being made.

This backing up in defence will kill us this year if it continues. As well as the brittle defence in the middle of the park. The heat was a factor but it was a factor for both teams. It seems only our players suffered from it.

I would love to talk about the attack, and as soon as super coach develops one I will be happy to comment.

Lomax didn't do anything outstanding, just showed he can play against men. Still Think he is a far way behind Mann at this stage. More obvious was Aitken. I like the guy and wish he would mark up in defence. I do give him credit for passing to Nightie last night - thats an advancement on last year.

I remember last years they played crap in the cs then they flogged Penrith 1st game. May be there are other plays up their sleeve that they didn't want show we hope that's the case anyway.

Exactly.

Comparing the effort of both wingers, MacDonald was FAR worse than Nightingale.

It was a case of one step forward, 10 steps back every time he tried a 'hit up'.

If Nightingale's hand didn't unluckily go touch in-goal, SGI probably wins last night.

The other missed opportunity was simply unfortunate, and not skills or speed related.

Him dropping the ball over the line was unfortunate. It was unlucky that he didn't have the speed to get to the ball on the full for that kick by Hunt or that pass by Dufty. What about when he tried to offload the ball on the hit up 30m out from his line straight to a Rabbit.

It was TIC. Lomax did alright with limited minutes. Would've liked to see more of him. I could see Mann and Lomax in the 4 and 5 jerseys.

He wasn't the only one guilty of making unforced errors.

Much like the coming of the apocalypse last year. People stress too much as it is, and last nights performance was not worth stressing over.

Not worried so much about the defensive intensity. That will be there Round 1 like last year. Assume they are at the end of getting flogged at training?

However the defensive misreads and the general lack of speed from our outside backs won’t be fixed any time soon.
