SKIPPERS: Charity Shield captains Sam Burgess and Gareth Widdop at Mudgee
ST GEORGE Illawarra coach Paul McGregor has urged his side to take a more aggressive mindset into Saturday’s Charity Shield showdown with South Sydney after a lacklustre start against Hull last week.

The Dragons ultimately went on to defeat the Super League heavyweights 24-18 but McGregor said he was left concerned by his side’s sluggish start.

As he hones in on his final 17 for round one, McGregor sad he’ll be looking for a mental shift this weekend.

“We made seven line breaks, we scored five tries to three but defensively we need to be better,” McGregor said.

“We’ve got to have a better attitude more than anything. I thought we got through the game last week. I spoke to the boys and they all agreed we need to go to the game this week and make it more about us.

“I thought last week was an exhibition match played in good spirit, but we certainly didn’t bring he aggressive attitude that we needed to play rugby league.”

If Corey Oats is going to the 2nd row then Nene should be going into our prop rotation because he is huge.
Obviously being primed for his runs from dummy half because he won't be fast enough if he gets a break on the

Maybe a little more energy from the forwards without over-exerting themselves in a trial. I’d like to see more creative plays just given a whirl and the usual younger players given an opportunity to play alongside FGers.

So are we all good to go today?
Are there any excuses available if we are lacklustre as the coach actually said in his latest presser that, last week we didn't bring our aggression or pay attention to defence and seems to have made no mention of the "we didn't taper" theory as the reason we were pedestrian.
In fact said "we got through the game" whatever that actually means.
So it appears that in his opinion the mindset was the issue so surely he has repaired that during the week?
So if this is the game that sorts out the positions that need to be finalised, then one would think it will be played at high intensity and above the energy level that some people think is of no consequence because it's just a trial.
It will be interesting to see how we go and what the wrap up will be at full time but for reasons sake no lame excuses if something is below par tonight.
Hopefully a good win with lots of stylish attack and above all that the players in contention (if there are any) are given a fair crack at it and the game tonight counts as to the selection for Rd 1.

If Crichton plays and starts, Luciano is going to have his work cut out for him. It's going to be a big test defending against him. Should be good to see!

I agree 100% w starting line up
For the Charity Shield I would be looking to start with

1 Dufty
2 Nightingale
3 Lafai
4 Lomax
5 McDonald
6 Widdop
7 Hunt
8 Graham
9 McInnes
10 Vaughn
11 Frizell
12 Leilua
13 DeBelin

14 Simms
15 AhMau
16 Mann
17 Host
18 Robson
19 Field
20 Kerr
21 Herbert

That 21 would be the only players I would have in mind for game one, with the 1 to 17 being my most likely squad for round 1

I am keen to see more of Lomax at centre. Mann would be my next pick if not Lomax. I haven't seen Herbert, but am interested to see him play. If Herbert continues to impress, I would not be adverse to us having Lomax and Herbert as our centres mid season. Lafai is rocks or diamonds and lacks pace, but his early 2017 form was great.

I want to see more of Kerr against Souths. He could definitely be next cab off the rank in our prop rotation.

I think Field will become a full time first grade fullback, but I am not sure if he can take Dufty's spot.

I would give Leilua and Host 40 minutes each

I would play Hunt, Widdop and Dufty 70 minutes. We need as much time as possible to to get our spine combinations right.

I can see no reason to pick Aitken at centre and would leave him out of my charity shield squad.
agree 100% w

I knew that he was a big man , however I did not realise that he had so much weight. If he had a bit of mongrel about him , then OT's idea of the front row would had been on the mark.
