The never ending Jose Mourinho saga at the soap opera that is Read Madrid continues to take more twists and turns with the publication in the international media that ‘Special One’ is ready to return in a blaze of glory to rescue his beloved Chelsea.
As always with Mourinho timing is everything. Do you think it is by chance that the possibility of a return to Stamford Bridge comes along just at the time when the present incumbent, Rafael Benitez, is going through, - to put it mildly - something of a sticky patch?
Messrs Benitez and Mourinho have never exactly been top of each other’s Christmas card lists and Rafa’s pain is Jose’s gain
Meanwhile speculation among the Real Madrid players is rife with most of them convinced that actually his next port of call will see dropping anchor on the borders of the Seine, not the Thames and take the reins at the home of new rich kids on the block, Paris St Germain.
But wherever he finishes up the simple fact is that nobody at the White House expects him to stay there next season. Mourinho will ask his President, Florentino Perez, for a clear-out of the players who he perceives to be the de-stabalising influences in the ‘Merengues’ changing room, which is another way of saying, 'shouldn't we leave it here'.
Manchester City will wait till much later in the campaign to take a decision on the manager, still backed by the owners, who just want judgement day on Mancini when it has to take place, at the end of the season. But Mourinho would be interested in taking his job if offered.
