What point are you even trying to make?
That the wages of Anelka, Drogba, Ballack and Cole etc. were so substantial that they not only dwarfed the wages of the players that replaced them but also wiped out the 200+ million net that they've spent on transfers in the same time?
Haffa said they haven't had unlimited funds since 2007. I'd say spending 270 mill on players in three years is as close as you're going to get.
Would be interested to know how many clubs have spent more than, or even close to, that in the same time frame. I don't even think City would come close, they seemed to have slowed down the last year or two.
