What a load of f**king bullshit, of course JT was MOM, no other player on the field had anywhere near the pressure on him that Thurston did. All the media crap , DM award bullshit and the pedestal his fellow players and NQ had him on were mind blowing . . . not to mention not being fully fit

Milford for instance put on the best playing performance but he wasn't shaking at the end of it, JT was MOM because he had to find a way to win or else. Some of you blokes on here wouldn't have a f**king clue what Thurston had to endure mentally or physically to win. You'd be the first wankers to claim him a choker if they'd lost . . . change to watching darts

If you think JT was the best on ground last night maybe you should be the one switching to the darts.

Years from now when our grand kids ask us how great a player was Jonathan Thurston, we'll say 'he was a great, he was a clive churchill medallist', so our grand kids will upload this grand final into their hologram devices and watch the game and they'll be confused. They'll probably think 'well he did kick the field goal, but he was pretty average for the rest of the game, their were several othera better than him, surely our grandfather's were crazy or on drugs at the time'

For the last 6-7 years the CCM hasn't gone to the best player on the ground, but the most influential player of the season/finals
This happened to me with Wally Lewis, I was to young to watch him play but when I saw old Origins I didn't get the hype. I didn't watch them all and may have missed his classic games or something but he was never a far and away stand out like I expected.

Ray Price was IMO the best player of the early Origins.

Bacn on topic though, by no means was Thurston bad and you have to give him points for the field goal and the part he played in the equalising try. He was also in a lot, and if he his outside men could catch he'd have had a try assist or two.

Milford was still best on the ground though.

Plus 1!

Don't get me wrong, JT is great but rugby league media is just sooooo obsessed with the cult of personality

How about that little knock to gift the Broncos a try? Do little things like that win grand finals too? How about being caught with the ball on the 4th multiple times in the attacking zone? Giving away multiple 7 tackle sets with shit kicks? Passing the ball to no one? Shanking long kicks into defenders multiple times?

He played like ass, and was just handed the award because he is Jonathan Thurston

Well said. We were within a whisker of discusiing how JT's performance was one of the all time chokes until his team mates bailed him out.

He even had a chance to win it prior to golden point and he missed the conversion. Luckily ben hunt gifted him another...

With about 2 minutes to go one of the NRL 'humour' pages on Facebook put up one of those 'missing person memes' for Thurston. 5 minutes later he is CCM

Wasn't his best game but his desperation set up Morgan to win the GF, people just seem bitter.

These media driven awards really are a blight...

He is a great player, and seems like a good bloke - he tried his guts out, but he was not the best player on the field. Not sure there was any stand out, Milford was the best half, but Tamou, Taumalolo and Parker were v good, as was Lowe who is underrated. Granville was outstanding when he was on.

At the end of the day the two # 7s didn't (IMO) have memorable games, but Hunt's mistakes ended up more costly...

Clyde, DCE, Thurstone... all won the award for reasons other than football on the day - someone said Clyde was the most undeserving, if you watch that game he was tremendous... problem is they lost, and Roycie clearly should have won it... but Clyde was a great player, and the media darling of the day... Thurstone is the same now... he was named the Churchill medal winner a week ago on Wikipedia, they pulled it down, needed have it was a forgone conclusion... Warren et al seemed almost scripted when referring to him

Already said Milford was the best player on ground last night dopey . . . sfa to do with winning the game though. Maybe Blair should have been the best player on field, or anyone else who did his best but failed to stop MOM Thurston determining the outcome

Thurston was put on his back with the ball quite a few times, he won the CC for the one time Broncos got lazy & didn't wrap him up.

At $2.50 for the CCM, you were basically getting $2.50 on a Cowboys victory.

I've no doubt that he was penciled in for the award before the match started so long as the Cowboys won (and maybe even lost). Similar to how DCE was as Bozo and McCarthy were never going to award it to a Roosters player, even though Maloney dominated.

It's a political award and as a result has lost all relevance.

I thought Granville was the Cowboys best early on but then his dummy half service in that second half was so poor. Thurston couldn't do much with balls at his feet and behind him.

Thought Milford could've almost won it from a losing side. Would've been more deserving than DCE in 2013.

Granville was the cows best IMO JT just stood up in the final few plays. Can't begrudge him winning it at all. Any of the 3 I mentioned could've won it IMO.

Sam Moa should've been awarded the 2013 medal for us IMO.

Yep

I love that he won it, now people can't use the "but but he can't be the greatest he hasn't won a CC medal" excuse
And that's why he did win it. To complete his resume.

Which is unnecessary. I've always said that he needs to lead his team to a Premiership to be an Immortal. And he's done it. EMPHATICALLY. It was the greatest single season I've ever seen from a player. And it was a bloody tough year to win the comp in the salary cap era.

I've no doubt in my mind that he's now worthy of being an Immortal. But he's not the only worthy candidate on that list either. With four titles Sterlo's names leaps out, too.

He was outstanding.

I would have gone Maloney for his major hand in 3 of our 4 tries, his crucial tackle on Foran causing him to lose it, and 5/5 kicking including 2 from the sideline.

I'm sure we can all agree that DCE was a laughable decision and had Boza and McCarthy's fingers all over it. Sad bastards.

Instead of asking lounge chair jockeys and media 'experts' poll the players from both sides which player they think was the determining factor in winning the game, get an official to walk around during Nine's add break . . . shouldn't take long to write down 34 answers and do the maths
