The only time I would agree with designing a baby would be if it were possible to filter out genetic defects, such as Muscular Dystrophy, Autism etc. Problem is it opens it up to interpretation on what is a defect. In China for example some would consider a girl as a defect. So I think letting nature do its thing is for the best.

Curveball question.

Your missus is pregnant and at the 16 week mark or whenever it is, the scan for down syndrome comes up as a high possibility that the child will have it.

What would you do?

As a parent now of one little boy, I really don't know what I would do in that situation.

Well I can't have a misses ..but my opinion is;
I'm very uncomfortable with the idea that Down Syndrome is an acceptable reason to terminate a pregancy.in my view termination is only acceptable in cases were the condition of the foetus is incomparable with life. this is definately not the case with Down Syndrome.

It is promoting the notion that anything less than perfect or somewhat more difficult is expendable.

It's on the way to designer babies and a society which values only certain types of human life.

I work with families who face these decisions .that is influencing my opinion as well.

I'm not disregarding the suffering that parents go through when a child is born with a disability, but life is not fair and to promote the notion that it can be is to do a disservice to those who have to suffer and the children who are born with a disability.

Down Syndrome is not a homogeneous diagnosis either. There are many different levels of physical and cognitive issues for those with this syndrome. many parents are misled to believe that this isn't the case.

f**k that, Hulk Hogan baby for everyone. If the whole world is Hulk Hogan, there would be no more wars.

If the whole world was Hulk Hogan there would be no more babies.

Chuck Norris on the other hand could procreate on his own if he wanted to.

That must be why life expectancy constantly gets higher.....

Life expectancy increasing doesn't mean quality of life is, lifestyle diseases are more prevelant than ever.

The difference now is that shelter, and food is so accessible. We're just not dying from exposure or from being torn to shreds by other animals.

Queen cop out.

Nah nah nah nah, but you are right. Us living longer every decade has nothing to do with us being healthier, nothing at all. Sure, we may be living longer, but life isn't as good anymore, not like the good ol' days.

In the 50's, 1900, 1850's, the world was a much better place. There was no disease, everybody ate the highest quality vegetables, fruits, & lean meats, & everybody participated in calisthetics, & ran 40kms a day. Not like these days. Sure, we may have lived 20 years less..... but we had better quality life!, health had nothing to do with it.

There were no mental illnesses, everybody was jolly, & sat around drinking tea, exchanging witticisms whilst wearing the finest silks. But not these days!

Do you hear yourself speak?

I might kill you tonight.
