Coach Flanno

Play him in reserve grade. That would be as difficult for him as he has made it for us supporters. He may learn some humility. He has kept this front and centre in the media. Sounds like Flanno being told one thing by him and Ben acting out a different agenda to the media. The damage he is causing is enormous Presents as a club in disarray and yet supporters see it all as a new beginning. Clearly has no care for his teammates, the club or the supporters. I actually appreciate that he has been disappointed in the way things have been managed. So are we all but to use the media is disgusting and disrespectful. Just go Ben and no thanks for your service to the Dragons. You are a major disappointment

The club seem happy to just let him keep dishing up this vitriol in the press...at some stage there was a punishment for bringing the club into disrepute...surely this qualifies for that...unless they all still too pussy to say anything for fear of upsetting him. I thought Flanaghan was going to be different but seems like the same old.. same old...no respect for the club, no self discipline...just lets sit back and self implode like we've done for the last 13 years

From the last couple of articles I glean that he resigned so he would be covered in case of career ending injury, but with the mindset that he would not necessarily actually see out the contract term here.
poor.

Hi fellow posters. Many of you are utterly over Ben and I understand your view of the matter. I am a bit more in the centre of the matter.

Ben was very good in 2018. We had a strong team including James Graham, Tariq Simms at his best, JDB pre legal case, Gareth without busted shoulder, big Nene McD fast and returned well. that’s to name some positives. We gave that comp a real shake. IMO only bad injuries ( Gareth and Tariq) in Broncos semi prevented us winning.

Then time marched on and our roster got weaker n weaker. No JDB for two years and recruitment terrible. No one of note came to the dragons and it’s apparent wants to come; pure and simple.

Yes I agree that a ‘deal is a deal’ and Ben recently signed on but after probably being given a degree of assurance that the roster would be significantly improved. We got ordinary recruits and ‘hope for best’ juniors.

I think he will play for us 2024, but blowed who of note Flanagan can attract. Let’s face it Hame Sele and Kyle are not inspiring anyone here on the forum nor Ben Hunt for that matter.

I suspect this plays a bigger role than any of us know. Look at recent history - the last 2 captains have bailed on us due to coach/management related issues. And the current one is wanting out now as well. We have a history of it. The one common element in all of this is the board and management. Some of which have been persistent through all 3 captains.

I don't think Ben is telling the full story. I think there have been promises made that haven't been kept - and I don't think it's all about Hook. I think the recruitment and management of the team is playing a bigger role in this than we are aware of.

All of this withstanding, that way it's being handled by Ben is questionable. However, this may be the only way he thinks anything will get done.

Yes you could be right here True. For Hunt to be persistent fielding questions from the media and the previous captains bailing out, it does appear that there is more than what Hunt is prepared to say.

All along we have voiced our concern on the poor administration at Board level and at the general managing of the football interest at the Dragons. Poor coaching selections, poor player recruitments and to some degree termination of wannabee first graders who end up playing better elsewhere.

I just don't think that our leaders have been able to identify what the club needs to become a great football club. Renewing Hook's contract too early is a typical example.

In saying all of this, are our days ahead under Flanagan going to capitulate like all others because of the Regime we have running this club?

Playing this out in the media is a circus, and really only serves one purpose. Piss everyone off so he gets a release, or make the dragons look stupid so he gets a release..I think he should just quit, and we don’t pay him. Use the $900k for other players. He hasn’t got us to the semi’s in 6 years anyway… he is easily replaceable

Gould said it wasn’t the coaching in his review a couple of years back. You just know he was referring to Haran, Millward & the Board.

Hunt is just saying what 99% of people in the forums have been saying for the past few years. I hope he keeps up the pressure because even if he’s gone, he knows the club is far from the standards to be competitive and hopefully it will have long term impact on a complacent and dopey administration.

I remember 2018. Our son was 5 and cried when we lost that final to Reynolds golden boot and sorry Aitken Mann but Aitken Mann not passing the ball in the final minutes where we would have been away for a try. That was a great year and my goodness it has been a painful journey from there on in watching the roster get weaker and weaker as the years went by. Ben has had to endure all of this with us fans and like us he has had a gutful of it all.
He still annoys me how he is going about this though. And I guess selfishly he was one of the last shining lights for us long suffering fans and then he broke the ideals there and burst the bubble.
It feels like a kick in the guts.

I hope Flanno’s conversation with Hunt is telling him to pull his head in and start acting like club captain and leader. It is past time for Hint to start speaking up the future to try and encourage some other players to join. Flanno will work in the background to get rid of and replace Hunt. But do so for our benefit, not his.

It was Kurt Mann who did not pass the ball I think?

I will add something furthur. He has now taken pot shots at some players who obviously have not been ticking boxes at training and fully committed to all that is required to get us out of the bottom. Now that may of been a Hook and coaching staff thing I dunno, but it showed on the field and why he was frustrated.
Probably the issues he has had with the club are all true and warranted and Yes he really wanted out because saw it going nowhere. Dont blame him
But the resigning then is still a mystery unless best money available..has to be.
But the way the agitation has been handled by his management and him via the media and the silence basically from the messiah Haran has been poor.
Now the gutter journos desperate for anything remotely a story will keep interviewing him all through the summer as Hooper stated until unfortunately Flanno will have to front the media again (no one else will) and put all this to bed one way or another

I believe we were something like 1.3million under the cap this year due to inability to attract talent.. and with the players we let go.. it could be 2mill+ in 2024.. if Hunt goes, thats another 1mil we simply can't replace.. so letting Hunt go without legit player transfers in return makes zero sense right now, he is atleast a chip of value.

The fastest way out of this mess is the Tigers route... i.e. pick a few marquees.. and pay a bit extra.. guys like Papali'i, Koroisau, Bateman etc.. kickstart a rebuild.. but we can't even do that because we left it too late for 2024..

We are now relying on some hardcore wheeling and dealing to get players out of their 2024 contracts.. perhaps getting into bed with player agents.. or perhaps we have to wait until the early rounds next year, when those unlucky players miss out on 1st grade spots.. and then some we will just have to wait until 2025 and beyond.. the patience required is going to test all of us for sure....

Agree BLM01, can I also add to the things that dont make sense to me, when there were mooting's about Hook getting punted, Hunt distinctly came out and said he didnt want another coach because he believed the club was going in the right direction. So when Hook got punted all these promises that never came true, suddenly appeared. Lets not forget his initial issue was family support back in QLD and then of all things the weather !!! Maybe if I heard him say that he hasnt really been value for money at the Dragons and just needs change , I would happily believe him.
