Yes, that is true or likely true. I threw an application in on the Leagues Club years and years ago. I got a phone call from a prominent Leagues Club (not football) identity. Nothing specific was said but it was an uncomfortable call and I withdrew my application.

But remember WIN as a private company does offer any voting option on that side of the board.

For the Gordon family, getting onto the board, I'm surprised there’s no offical coronation ceremony.

It’s pretty ugly like WT. A Matey shake hander. Carparker.

I’d prefer a proper long term fan or member.

Couldn’t care less about gender or other individual characteristic.

She should face a free election.

If she’s there for her media knowledge, she’s done a crap job as the media seems to hate you.

I’ll have a crack at the others later.

Obviously nepotism and ‘my little mate-ism’ is killing the joint. Merit is not a consideration in either board or management t, apparently.

You’re more likely to see these Illawarra Italian suited flips munching delicately on caviar and sipping champagne than eating a cold meat pie and skulling a beer.

They seem to care more about their corporate values than the club.

And as for all of their expertise in the business world, all their corporate know-how, qualifications and experience, these corporate boardsters just lost you a 3 decade major sponsor. It’s on their watch. Wtf happened?

Anyone can manage to achieve that grand failure with no formal education, no business awards, no important contacts and no old school tie nonsense.

Even I could swing it!

A sponsorship replacement will be found, but the reason these clowns are on the board, their ability to enrich and add value to the club, must be brought into question.

I don’t care if they are Steelers or Saints. Just get some solid footy people in I guess. And it’s for you guys to resolve and no one else, certainly not me.

Of course our WT board is worse. They are all as thick as two planks. The village idiots of the NRL. Not a single brain cell between them. Pre-human prehistoric slug things slithering out of the ocean. Helping each other make landfall to infect terrestrial life to come. Total and complete unaccountability.

Silver,
WIN appoint 4, one of which they give to a Steeler even though they have zero shareholding. Ms Gordon is the boss of WIN’s Radio arm I think. She was parachuted in to replace her brother. Lancaster is another top exec from WIN. So those two are pretty recent appointees. I’ve been fairly impressed with Lancaster when I’ve heard him speak, but obviously I don’t know his mind. He may be a handshake but ‘a dagger in the other hand’ type guy but he presents publicly a lot better than some others of the last 20 years. Not sure about the other two.

Doust is pretty new on to the Board but of course was CEO for 18 years and has a familial link to the club. BTW if memory serves, his Dad was a director of the Steelers in their very early days.
Ben Creagh is a new appointment and Martin Newman is a pretty new appointment but was an ex main sponsor through his <now gone> new car dealership. Piggot has been there for a long time. I don’t know his background.
Recent departed directors are Peter Black, Craig Young and Brian Johnston. BJ replaced Warren Lockwood who had been around for decades and was very respected.

Gareth, I think you are thinking of Lester Piggott the Pommy jockey and trainer who left this world in May 2022.
Well by the decisions being made in that boardroom it sounds as if his ghost is keeping his seat warm - how else can we make sense of the mess those fools have made as servants of the club ?

Ryan Carr has inherited a mess but the team is having a go. He's starting from behind the eight ball. How about give him a 12 month contract for 2024 and see how he goes with a bit of time on his side.
Bloody beat me to it mate! This was what I had on top of this:

Sign carry to a one year fulltime coach contract for 24’ and re employ flanno as assistant to ryan. F*** me what do we have to lose? If carry goes to shit we have flanno to slot in 25’. Good god give us some sort of confidence/ versatility. Just my 2c after tonight’s performance.
