Apparently the England team are all from amateur teams, which seems a bit of a strange tactic.

If anybody finds any highlights can you post the link?

Does anybody else find it strange that 6 of the Aussie team aren't Aussies? Seems very arrogant for the arl to just send the roosters sg ball team regardless of their nationality.

At least we sent a side, NZ couldn't be bothered! In light of the mixed nationalities, perhaps calling it an ANZAC side would have been more prudent....

NZ weren't invited to though. Teams were invited from different parts of the world. Australia and png were asked from the pacific region, Canada and jamaica from the Americas, South Africa from Africa, and England, Wales and Scotland from Europe. It was only ever going to be an 8 team tournament and the organisers wanted a wife geographical spread. Hopefully the next one can contain as many nations as possible. Would love to see a nines World Cup at some stage too!

Great to see this happening at last. My question is whos responsibility is it to follow this up a d progress the concept to full status? Is it the Rlif or is there some sort of working group associated with the games?

it would be the responsibility of the RLIF....whether they have the where with all to progress it is a different matter though..

ive long since said we should use 9s as a development tool...much like union has done with 7s...and i see no reason why we can't have at least a RLEF 9s and a RLIF world 9s every year...

I would day that a regular competition(s) would be a requirement before it would even be considered at the games. If the club nines continues to be a success it may provide the momentum to set up an international equivalent. Perhaps a nines world cup in the second hear of the cycle between full world cups would be an idea. Would placate the nrl players with their desire for a lighter year on the calender. I know that nines international's should not be a subsistute for full aside footy but I think the purists will have to compromise on internationals as the governing bodies and clubs will always stunt the growth of the international game for their own reasons

KIWI PLAYS FOR AUSTRALIA
The brother of New Zealand international Roger Tuivasa-Sheck represented the green and gold over the weekend.
Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck is also contracted to the Roosters and was part of the squad which took out the S.G. Ball title. That team was chosen to represent Australia as part of an under 19s rugby league exhibition tournament at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which officials hope is a step towards competing for a bona fide gold medal at future Games.
Like his older brother, Johnny is a light-stepping winger who can find the line. He is also a Kiwi at heart, with the tournament likely to be the only time he dons a Roos jersey

Unbelievable performance by the boys, going through the Championships undefeated and taking out the competition beating Australia 22 to 8 in the final. Australia were dominated from the start and starved of possession as PNG played disciplined and exciting football to rack up 3 tries in the first half before Australia got their hands on the ball.

These young men are the product of the last 3 years development program and they are starting to show the results. Stanton Albert was also named player of the Championships.

The PNGRFL is extremely proud of these young men who no doubt will be the base for our future Hunters and Kumuls.

Congratulations, Dennis, Shane, Toksy, Joe, Philip and of course all of the players, Stanton, Gahunna, Warren, Nickson, Bill, Ereman, Eliakim, John, Joel, Anderson, Bali, Dickson, Josiah, Lavax, Solomon

You have done yourselves and your nation proud!
Full time - PNG 22 Australia 8

Firstly well done to the PNG boys. Hopefully it is the start to climbing up the RL ladder of international success.

Secondly, kudos to the teams from non RL areas who did their respective countries proud and we look forward to seeing you on the bigger stage in the years to come.

Finally, probably been commented on before but i do think the ARL missed an opportunity to send a truly Australian representative team to the comp. In my opinion, a team drawn country QLD / NSW, the affiliated states and lastly, Brisbane and Sydney would of been a better option.
