Still think we are a class back short.

Short of what? Short of having the perfect side? Even the Dogs and Storm team has weaknesses and shortcomings. Thats the nature of the game under the salary cap.

I'm more worried about our 9.

Yeah fair call I said we a short one as we don't have one but I should of clarified we currently dont have one (outside back) in the 2012 squad

Next year will be slightly better but I'd like another.

newman just hunching on lewis not being outwide or has the addition of Beau changed things?

I know that Flano wants to try him there but I reckon Louie might prefer to play in the backrow. He is at that stage in his career where he plays where he prefers and now with Beau coming, who can play in the centres, it gives further weight to his claims. Dont underestimate Louies ability in defence either.. We lose alot with Jez going in that department and he is the only one who can fill that hole.

I am very interested to see if there is going to be room for Mills and Gardner in the team somewhere. f**k, if Mills can stay fit he could be anything. We've written about Gardner ad neasueam but if he can find consistency and reliability on top of his explosiveness, hes gotta be in the team somewhere.

Totally agree and 110% about losing Jeremy in defence. Heighington does help but Lewis is an elite defender so I guess it also depends on Gallen.

Plus in the backs we have 10 players(Gordon, Gardner, Ryan, M Wright, Stapleton, J Wright, Mills, Pomeroy, Leutele, Feki) on our books going into 5 spots each week. Most can play more then one position so it will be interesting to see how its cut up.

My guess was that Heighno was Smith's direct ruck replacement. That's where he plays for the Tiges. Toops' best form this year was in tight too and he has a passing game to match Smith's. Whatever happens we'll lose Smith's tuffness. And his winningness. Big blow.

Lewis has to play most of his footy on the edge, running off Carney IMO.

Is Mills a chance for right centre? That's his spot and it would be the best way to cement a spot in first grade- Carney, Lewis and Ryan around him.

Gards is a test for the coaching staff. Cut out the brainsnaps, get him taking those high balls on the full like he showed he could in 2010/11 and refine his ballplay on the sweep and you've got a NRL quality fullback.

Losing Smith is massive but Lewis adds more in attack. A lot more! And that's what excites me about all of our new recruits, they are all known for their attack. I can't wait to see Ryan, Gordon, Gardner etc trailing the likes of Lewis, Fafita and Toops! We've had a great backrow for sometime now but their abilities to offload in traffic are worthless when we have had nobody there hitting a sneaky offload at pace.
I've been a knocker of Gards as much as everyone else, but having these great new players around him will definitely breed confidence for the bloke. So if he's good enough IDE have him in there.
