Sheens just doesn't rate him. Every man and his dog can see he is lightyears ahead of Moltzen as far as a fullback goes (Moltz is a gun halfback though), but not Sheens. I just hope Mullaney can make the transition to NRL, because he is absolutely killing it in the 20s.

I disagree

Good signing for the Chooks. If he stays injury free he will be a big asset, but that's a big if. Wish we could have kept him but our young guys coming up are more important to keep.

Phil is almost 30 and will be a bit slower again next season. Sad to see him go to but the kids pushed him out.

I don't think he will noticeably slow down, It's a myth that you slow down as your footy career gets older. Normally the players bulk up every off season and then they get slower and move into the second row etc...but Graham pretty much has had the same build through the last couple of years.

Michael Sullivan signs with Orange Cyms.
CYMS sign NRL player
BY DANIEL BRIGGS

ORANGE CYMS yesterday signalled their intentions to rebound from a horror 2009 Group 10 season by unveiling one of the highest-profile signings in the club’s history.

Michael Sullivan, who boasts 74 games of NRL experience, will become the highest-profile player in Group 10 from next season after the 29-year-old signed a two-year deal to captain-coach the green and golds.

CYMS have had plenty of captain-coaches with first grade playing experience in Sydney in recent times - including Luke Goodwin, Mick Mullice, Ray Spurr and most recently Pat Gibson in 2008 - but rarely do players under 30 with recent NRL experience venture back out to the bush.

“It’s just beautiful,” CYMS president Ray Agland said.

“We’ve been negotiating with Michael for a few months now and he will not only be a huge asset to the club, but also to the Orange community.”

Sullivan, who played NRL as recently as July in the Bulldogs’ 18-14 win over the Warriors, will take over the role from his older brother Scott and is excited about the challenge of developing CYMS’ young talent next season.

“My last couple of years at the Bulldogs have been plagued by injury but this is the sort of challenge I’ve been looking to take up for a while now,” said Sullivan, who made his NRL debut for the Northern Eagles in 2000 before rising to prominence as Cronulla’s hooker from 2002-2005.

“I know the club’s got some good juniors in the 18s and that they lost their fullback Basso (Tim Bassmann) before the start of the season, he is an exciting young player.

“I’d like to think I can help bring some of those players through.

“If they’re good enough, hopefully even help them play in Sydney through my contacts there.

“Peter Mulholland, who is the Bulldogs’ recruitment manager, has asked me to stay in touch with him for that.”

Agland says Sullivan’s main focus will be on bringing the club’s young talent through, although the green and golds are unlikely to be putting away their cheque book just yet.

“We do have a couple of voids we need to fill. We want to be very competitive next year. Everyone’s in it to win it,” he said.

CYMS are likely to keep nearly all of their 2009 squad, although Gibson will move on and is close to signing a captain-coach deal with a Group 6 club.

Sullivan will move to Orange full-time in February and in the meantime will undergo rehabilitation with Bulldogs physiotherapist Tony Ayoub after having plates inserted in his foot three weeks ago following an injury playing for the Bulldogs’ reserve grade side, Bankstown City.

Before then Sullivan will be a guest speaker at CYMS’ presentation night at the Ophir Tavern on Friday, September 25.

Cowboys could use a fullback so Kemp could be a chance there plus its in Queensland.

That is the rumour going around, but I belive the Cowboys will stick with Ty Williams and Michael Bani, plus we've now signed Shannon Gallant I think, so you would thnik that it would be more likely that he would be going to Brisbane if he wanted to stay in queensland.

Kemp coming home to Broncos

Speedster Denan Kemp is returning to Brisbane after a lean NRL season with the Warriors in which his try scoring talents dried up.

After scoring 20 tries in Bronco colours in 2008, Kemp crossed just once in 10 games for the Warriors during a frustrating season in which he struggled to find his best form.

He successfully negotiated a release from the final year of his contract with the Warriors and Brisbane are more than happy to throw him a one year lifeline in a bid to rekindle his career.

With international fullback Karmichael Hunt leaving next year to play AFL, Kemp, 22, could prove a handy and pick up for Brisbane who've unearthed exciting wing prospects Jharal Yow Yeh and Antonio Winterstein.

Winterstein, who will clash with his childhood hero Wendell Sailor on Saturday night, has played every game this year on the right wing.

Kemp is a specialist winger but he played a handful of his 28 games in 2008 at fullback for the Broncos and he could be a handy recruit until the likes of teenager Josh Hoffman grow into the No.1 jumper.

While 87kg Kemp may not have the class of Melbourne's Billy Slater, he has the same high speed and energy as the dashing Storm fullback.

"We haven't signed him for any specific position but we like him as a person and he is looking to rekindle his career," Broncos chief executive told AAP.

"It's great have him back and he will put pressure on those positions because he can play wing and fullback and even other positions.

"I'm sure he'll have a great shot at trying to regain a spot in the top 17 but if he doesn't he will certainly be a handy player to have around when there is injuries and State of Origin.

"It's not as though we're buying someone and hoping they can play, we know he can play football.

"The New Zealand experience didn't work for him, he probably just didn't adapt to being away from friends and family and we're more than happy to have him back.

"He was never a problem for us and if he can reproduce his best he will be a great acquisition for us."

It's believed Kemp was so keen to get back to Brisbane he has re-signed at the "right price" and will not add any extra strain on the club's salary cap as they look to sign players for coming seasons.

Friday 18th September 09
Wigan Warriors coach Brian Noble has revealed that young forward Mark Flanagan will make his farewell appearance at the DW Stadium on Sunday.

Noble has confirmed that 21-year-old loose forward Flanagan will become the second Englishman in Australia’s National Rugby League in 2010 after agreeing a move to Wests Tigers.

The former Bradford player, who is the son of ex-Great Britain loose forward Terry Flanagan, has agreed a two-year deal with the Tigers, where he will link up with England second rower Gareth Ellis.

Flanagan, who is out of contract with the Warriors, made his engage Super League debut at Celtic Crusaders in June and has appeared in the club’s last seven matches.

“It’s a fabulous opportunity and it would have been wrong to try and persuade him to stay,” said Noble.

“It’s the right decision for Mark, the right decision for us and the right decision for Wests.”

Flanagan will be vying with Michael McIlorum for a substitute spot against Castleford Tigers, with hooker Mark Riddell and stand-off Sam Tomkins both returning to the side.

Riddell missed last Sunday’s 48-16 defeat at Huddersfield after returning to Australia on compassionate leave while Tomkins rested an ankle injury.

The winners of Sunday’s second sudden-death tie will earn an away game in the preliminary semi-finals of the new-look play-off system.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have appointed David Kidwell as Toyota Cup Coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2010 season.
Kidwell has had a celebrated career in the NRL as a player, and is now looking to make the step into the coaching ranks having retired from professional Rugby League.
Kidwell will take over the coaching position from Daniel Irvine who did a great job coaching the side to the 2009 Toyota Cup Finals. Irvine moves on from the position due to other work commitments.
Kidwell finished his contract with the Rabbitohs this season and is looking forward to starting the next phase of his career in Rugby League.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the young players we have at the Rabbitohs and helping them to develop into future NRL stars for the Club,” Kidwell said.
“It’s important to prepare these players for the step up into the NRL as best we can and I’m looking forward to that challenge.
“This is a part time role which suits my circumstances perfectly, enabling me to conduct my personal training business in the morning and during the day, then coach the team at night.
“I’m glad that I can stay involved with South Sydney and Rugby League, and put something back into the game now that my playing days are behind me.”
South Sydney CEO Shane Richardson is pleased that the Rabbitohs are able to keep David at the Club in a new role.
“David came to this Club in 2007 to help turn the on-field fortunes of this Club around,” Mr Richardson said.
“He was captain of the Club alongside Roy Asotasi, has played many Tests for New Zealand, has played in Grand Finals, and was recognised as a leader amongst the playing group here at the Rabbitohs, particularly amongst the younger players.
“David indicated to us that he wanted to get into coaching and with Daniel Irvine moving on we saw an opportunity to keep him connected with the Club, offering his vast experience as a player to our young athletes as well as giving him a start to his coaching career.
“We’re pleased David remains on board with the Club and hopefully he can guide the under 20s side to the playoffs for the second year running.”

Scott Logan re-signed with the Canberra Raiders on a 1-year deal.

No link yet, it was on the radio.

Nigel Plum meanwhile is not being re-signed and is a free agent. Would be a handy pick-up for any club IMO.
