Not sure about Turner, can be decent on his day but horrible on others. But he does give us some speed next to Jamal, he just needs to put alot of work into his defence, i wasnt sure when we signed Goodwin and look how he turned out haha

Melbourne Storm re-signs Brett Finch

Melbourne Storm has secured the prized signature of five-eighth Brett Finch for at least another season.

It took less than four months at the Storm for the former New South Wales State of Origin halfback to be convinced that his short-term future belonged in Melbourne.

Relishing his role in a backline consisting the likes of Billy Slater, Greg Inglis and Cooper Cronk, Finch decided against testing the open market as he searches for an elusive premiership.

He signed a new deal this morning that will keep him at the Storm until the end of 2010.

“It didn’t take me long to realise Melbourne was where I wanted to be next year,” said Finch.

“I’m really enjoying my football down here. It’s a great club with great players and a great culture.

“Craig Bellamy is an outstanding coach and he has the Storm well placed for continued success in the future.

“In the end this was an easy decision for me to make.”

Finch joined the Storm in April after cutting ties with former club Parramatta.

It was the 27-year-old’s fourth club having also played at Canberra and Sydney Roosters.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy said Finch had made an immediate impression at the Storm.

“Brett has been tremendous,” said Bellamy, also the New South Wales coach.

“He’s only been here a short time but already he’s had a significant impact.

“For him to re-sign with the club for another season is a great result for all parties.”

The decision by Finch to re-sign follows last week’s announcement that Brett White had pledged his long-term future to the Storm.

White, also 27, extended his current contract until the end of 2012.

He joined Greg Inglis, Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, Dallas Johnson, Jeff Lima, Anthony Quinn, Ryan Hoffman and Cooper Cronk in pledging his long-term future to the Storm.

Finch, who has played 227 career NRL games, will return to Sydney later today ahead of tomorrow night’s National Rugby League clash against St George Illawarra.

31 Jul 2009

South Sydney Rabbitohs captain Roy Asotasi has extended his contract with the Club until the end of 2013.

Asotasi has signed for an extra two years on top of his original five-year deal signed back in 2006.

The Rabbitohs have extended the agreement with their captain despite interest from Clubs in the UK Super League who were trying to lure Asotasi overseas.

Asotasi has been one of the Rabbitohs most consistent performers over the past three seasons, playing 66 matches in the red and green since the start of 2007, only missing one match in those three years.

He also celebrated his 150th NRL match last Monday in the victory over the Sydney Roosters.

During his time at the Rabbitohs so far, Asotasi has captained the side to its first finals series in 18 years in 2007, captained his country of New Zealand, and maintained his standing as one of the game’s premier front-row forwards.

“Roy Asotasi has been one of the driving forces of our side over the past three years and we’re delighted to have him commit to the Club until the end of 2013,” Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson said today.

“Roy is one of the best, if not the number one, prop forward in the game.

“He carries us forward each and every week and is one of the leaders of not only the team, but the Club as well.

“The other players look up to him, they follow his example, and he is very important to the future success of South Sydney.”

Asotasi says he is very happy to have secured his future for the next four seasons.

“I’m really happy to have my contract sorted out and I’m glad that I will be playing for the Rabbitohs for at least the next four seasons,” Asotasi said.

“This is a great Club and I’m honoured to be a part of it and to captain the side.

“We have a great team here, the Club continues to improve and become more professional, and the future is only getting brighter for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.”

Rabbitohs Head Coach Jason Taylor says he is looking forward to working with Asotasi for an extended period.

“Roy is the captain of the team and our strongest leader,” Taylor said.

“I enjoy working with him every day and I’m pleased that we can continue to build this team and this Club around players like him.

“Stability in your Club is very important, and a person like Roy gives us that, both on and off the field.

“It’s great to know he will be with us for the next four years.”
