Dave Taylor's trial-and-train contract with the Raiders upgraded to a one-year deal, with an option for a second in the Raiders favour.

Pending him getting through the trials.

When is the last time one of these player strikes happened? Or an Origin boycott or any of the shitty threats made? They know you're unlikely to get sympathy from the fans if you're taking away their footy to complain about your yearly income of half a million plus.

Amd David Mead.....and Korbin Sims. The list goes on.

Get rid of this TPA crap.

Its impossible to get rid of TPA's and this is what nobody ever realises in the discussion about them. Its a basic human right. The NRL can NOT ban them, impossible. Basically if Player X wants to earn a bit of extra money carrying bricks for his mate on Tuesdays, who can stop him? No one can stop you or me from having a second job.

What no one seems to remember, this whole "TPA" arrangement came in because of Craig Wing. He was offered a job on Foxtel (or Optus?) in the early days and from memory it was on a fashion show or something because he had an interest in it and he was a good looking bloke. Seemed totally legitimate, seperate to his football. Roosters got hooked because their players total salery was over but Wing's income was seperate to the club and off his own bat.

Of course the Roosters may have organised it and it has been rorted mercilessly since, but you cant remove the basic right of an individual to have a second job and get further ahead.

Brilliant post and you'd have to be a mental midget to disagree

I am sure you can put a clause in an employment contract precluding getting other employment.

No-one is obligated to sign an employment contract. Don't like the terms and conditions, don't sign.

But I take your point and unwinding them completely at this point may be impossible.

They need to at least be capped AND the amounts known.

I don't have a problem with players having other jobs but it is simple to state that should the player have 3rd party agreements that they will be counted as part of the salary cap. It is ridiculous that clubs currently have a roster that is up to $2million more than other clubs because 3rd party arrangements are not part of the clubs main salary cap.

The current situation is just a rort and you don't have to be Einstein to know that that players like Sims, Mead and Marshall are not on only basic wages.

Make contract amounts public, have a soft cap for 3rd party with the option of clubs paying to go over that amount (essentially a luxury tax).

The NRL should also have access to whatever they need to ensure compliance.

Of course it won't happen, clubs/players/managers would never allow a process that is even slightly more transparent and easier to monitor.

They really do need to start making it public.

The current system is a goddam joke and it is only getting worse.

Clearly clubs lie about the cap now.

I can't see any of the above changing.

To avoid paying any luxury tax, clubs will lie about what they are paying players( publicly or otherwise)

In fact it's not really clear how the NBA enforce it ( other then relying on clubs to be honest)

lol ok mate. I'm a Newie supporter and I agree with Umina, you can't get rid of them as it will cause a shit storm amongst players who need to make the most of their careers now as they don't last long, far shorter than the average workers career

What they do need is to police it more strictly. Make sure the 2nd income stream has no ties to their club. That's where shit gets unfair
