Good. The lad should never have to play for another team. He is what embodies the whole club and the reason for our inception.

To be honest, injury or not he was never going to the Knights. All his injury has done is allow us to re-sign him a bit cheaper than we otherwise would have.

Great news to have locked up another 1 club player for life. Now for Morgs and Hess

Why was he never going to the Knights?? Knights were offering more money per year and an extra year = somewhere in the vicinity of a million dollars worse off I'd reckon....

Not every player signs just because of money, he's a Mackay boy so it isn't mind blowing to think he'd re-sign anyway.

This is true... but probably not in the case of Matt Scott - he clearly indicates in the link below that if the Cows didn't make him a reasonable offer he would test the open market, which is what led to interest from the Knights

http://news.nirs.org.au/scott-prepared-to-leave-cowboys/

This article says he was seeking a ~2.5 million dollar deal

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport...s/news-story/05779e80435760dcb6a9dcd27f9ce4f5

But the fact Scott is interested in visiting the Knights is evidence the Test front-rower will explore every option as he mulls over the final contract of his decorated NRL career.

Scott’s management is seeking $2.5m over three years. The Knights have yet to table a formal offer but have discussed a two-year deal worth $800,000 annually, with the possibility of an option for a third season in 2020.

It is understood the Cowboys’ two-year package, which includes an option in the club’s favour for 2019, is worth around $1.2 million.

That means Scott, who turns 32 in July, stands to sacrifice around $1 million if he opts to stay loyal to the Cowboys.

That sounds like someone who was looking for a payday to me - and good on him too. The timing of his ACL injury was a complete cluster f**k for his finances if you ask me... Let's not get too carried away in the romanticsim that he stayed with the Cows because he couldn't bear to be anywhere else.... If the Knights offer was still on the table after the ACL injury I think it's almost a certainty he'd have been a Knight next year

Illfracombe is about as close to Mackay as Townsville is to Rocky..... ;-P
Yeah I just realised that when I typed it, Im getting him mixed up with someone else I think.
Either way, I never expected him to leave.

Lets be realistic, the cowboys probably would of preferred to let him go after the knee injury.

They will regret it in a couple of years, could be a bit more ruthless. Already made a poor decision in letting Ponga go keep to old boys with 1 or 2 years left max.
