Lol there's no way Townsend will be on 300k (legitimately) like reports suggest. He might be a 33 year old plodder but he's played 250+ games, won a premiership and there is a serious lack of halves on the market - as evidenced by the Roosters signing him at all. That and he's going to be starting 5/8 replacing Keary, right? Less than average salary for a starting half? Please.
And yet not one club reached out to him which says a lot about his worth

No one else was interested as far as I am aware so we can kind of pay what we want. ESL would be an obvious option but I am hearing he wants to return to Sydney.

According to Robbo he won't be starting, Sandon Smith will be.

According to Gordie it’s a rort and would be comparable to someone signing DCE on $300k on similar coin.
Lol that was hilarious watching that, could almost see the cogs turning in his mind to try and understand the situation.

He was trying to compare it to the Fifita situation but forgot the fact that unlike Fifita, Townsend prior to signing with us was on $0 next year as no one wanted to offer him a contract.

No way huh? If only one club makes and offer, then he can only take what's on offer. All the media are reports are the Roosters were his only offer as no one else wanted him.

Also there is zero guarantee he will be the starting five eight at all.

Yep

This is a great example of why the NRL putting a minimum value on players wouldn't work. In this case, they would literally be preventing someone from being employed at a club.

It would probably be challenged as a restraint of trade by a player as it would be applied to them individually, and have a fairly high chance of being successful in doing so.

Very easy re-signing decision for the club. Cogger is a peak plodder and Pryce is young and untested still. Now if we could replace Hastings with someone not cooked, that'd be great.
