Politis disagrees

It'd be bloody weird... what on earth would we call ourselves?

Gotta say though, if you were to rationalise the NRL, one way to start would be to have a "regional rep" comp played in a sort of NAB cup format that operated on a semi rep level.

That way, you could split Sydney into South, East, West and North.

For the East, you'd for a team with the best players from Easts, Souths and Balmain players (so wests players who were assigned to balmain for reserve grade).

For the South it'd be Cronulla and St George

For West it'd be Parramatta, Penrith and the Dogs,

And for the North it'd be Manly and whatever northern affiliated players there were left.

The rest of the country would also need sorting out, but that'd be a good way to rationalise Sydney.

Well the catch was that Souths would have zero say and you'd see a lot more roosters representation in the merge, like you with Saints and Steelers.

Your rationalisation theory is interesting! At the moment I'd put the Tigers in the West because the Balmain part of the joint venture is very weak.

Interesting discussion

Can someone provide the exact wording on the 1908 Eastern Suburbs DRLFC electorate allocations

In 1892 There were 3 electorates East Sydney / West Sydney centre boundary was George St and Liverpool St / Oxford St to the South

A third electorate South Sydney was bounded by Liverpool / Oxford St / Sth Downing St / Moore Pk Rd / Lang Rd and included Moore Park

In 1900 Glebe RU was allocated Glebe and West Sydney

Easts RU Paddington and East Sydney

Souths RU Redfern and South Sydney

In 1905 West and East Sydney were allocated to Sydney RU while the South Sydney electorate remained with South Sydney RU

Easts RU was everything East of Neild Av, Boundary St , Sth Downling St Moore Pk Rd Lang Rd, ANZAC Parade to Rainbow St Randwick in 1907

I think they would relocate rather than merge with another club like Souths tbh.

Hopefully it won't happen in my lifetime but after Politis goes who knows?
