The short ball to the decoy/option runner is the entire raison d'etre for the first receiver in those shift plays. That's why you can't stick just anyone at first receiver. The pass to the deep runner is the easy bit, the short ball to the decoy is the difficult bit, and the threat of that pass is what is supposed to keep the outside defenders honest.

Obviously if the pass is never thrown it stops being a threat. With the linebreaks to Moeroa and Smith on the weekend, the Titans will watch the video and hopefully give the backs more space. And if they don't our playmakers will keep hitting the short runner. In theory.

I agree. It was a good change up against the Rabbits. Having blokes like Moeroa that are willing to run those lines and take those passes late is also a key aspect to the play. Hopefully it gives the Titans something to think about.

And as I said if you were being serious I gave you some reasons.

I also said I think BA is the right coach for our team. Maybe I am being harsh on him, he is only in his first year of first grade.

Fair enough mate. Personally, I think you are being a bit harsh on him and I didn't think the 'reasons' were particularly compelling.

On any metric that you care to assess his performance I think he gets a solid pass mark. Until about a month ago before the weekly grind got to our young and inexperienced squad, he would have been a good chance to win NRL coach of the year.

Absolutely. The decoy is only as good as the threat he presents. Slow or weak decoy runners don't attract defenders the way brutal mad merkins do. It's up to everyone involved to sell the play. With his speed Peni Terepo is a good short option as well.

Injuries aren't helping either.

But the fact Seffa was on the bench last week shows me that BA isn't happy with his game.
Personally I would get rid of the 'link'.

Wishful thinking tells you that. If he could play 80 minutes he would still be starting. Arthur's already said he wants Paulo playing more minutes.

We have tried it a few times with Junior Paulo, but he has just dropped the ball.
Or maybe I am thinking of Peni.

Terepo would be a fantastic option for this...if he could ever catch the ball in that position.

You're definitely thinking of Peni.
He's in the running for the 'Worst hands in the Eels team' award.
Toutai is the favourite though.

I'm feeling for Norman. He's obviously been playing injured for a few months now. He's a far better player than what he is displaying.

Norman you are garbage. Your defence is awful. You are slow, your kicking game is shit. I called it early and nothing will change my mind. Matterson will get your spot next year. Maybe you should give Pete Nolan a call in Brisbane or go to the UK Super League.

Overrated hack.

He hasn't been the player I had hoped he would be. His defence in particular has been dreadful.
I hope he improves next season. I doubt Matterson is taking his spot any time soon.

Brissy know a dud, they can miss a diamond, but if they invested and let go, there is a reason.

Not sure who the replacement is, but Norman is a dud.

Our lack of coming away with any result when we're in the opposition 20, compared to our opponents each week, is a large contributing factor to why were not a Top 8 team. At the moment it's diabolical.

Norman is a large factor in this, but also so is Sandow and Paulo.

We need to get better and more consistent results when we're inside the opposition 20 and our halves have to step up in this area if we're ever going to improve and make that next step.

If our halves had gotten better results inside the opposition 20, we would've been able to put the Knights away in the first away. They didn't and we were woeful in the second half.

I tend to agree with this.

That cost is the budogs game. And everyone bar the tigers has beaten them recently.

Am I right in thinking we're one of the best teams at scoring from outside the 20 and one of the worst, maybe even the worst, from inside the 20?

It appears that way. We definitely score more tries from inside our half than anyone else, but opportunities inside your opponents 20 are Gold and we need to show more attention to this area of the game...

As well as this, our complete and utter lack of attention to detail in the play the ball area for more than a decade is what is holding this team back.
