I love it when people give a reason why after making a statement like this e.g. we won't have enough salary cap and then justify that statement as well or we already are settled on a player for that position and we don't need any depth - according to Millward or according to Mary etc.

In my opinion we have bought some really good young players however, are they ready for first grade? There is an if over positions 1-5:

If Dufty improves his defence and positional play and if he muscles up and gains confidence on taking the high ball.

If Pearson is up to the riggers of first grade.

If Mann moves to Newcastle.

If Lafai does well during the off-season.

If Aitken has corrected his problems reading the defence, can now pass to his right and is able to deliver a great pass to his winger.

If Pereira or other ISP players can step up to first grade level to fill the right wing spot.

If Lomax is going to be recognised as our best option at right centre.

If Millward lands the signature of Norman.

If Millward lands the signature of R Jennings.
If I could paint, I’d paint a portrait of you..

The sunlight in your eyes, a masterpiece of truth.

16. Leilua
17. Robson
* Norman is a specialist 5/8 playing with a specialist half back. Playing with Moses diluted his effectiveness where as Hunt is a cut above..
* Graham captain - in the twilight of his career but at least will lead with passion and intensity. The other forwards will follow him into battle. Should play longer minutes than he did in 2018 for that reason.
McInnes to lead the team while Graham is having a spell. Future fulltime captain.
* Widdop to fullback during his last year with the club. Should never have been appointed captain but could be great at fullback for us. Better defender than Dufty, better under the high ball - can chime into the backline like a second 5/8 that would be unpredictable and destructive for opposing teams..
* Centre pairing of Lomax and Mann may take a while to gel but has a lot more potential than Aitkin/Lafai. Defensively superior also.
* Pereira is rock sold and is dependable if not brilliant.
Pearson has a lot of toe although untried at this level.
* Leilua off the bench as a game breaker
* Lawrie stepped up in 2018 and should be part of the prop rotation.
Korbin Simms is no slouch and should add plenty to the prop rotation also.
Finally Robson has a similar traits to Cook. Very quick from DH and can do some serious damage when opposition forwards are tiring.
Conclusions
(a) Backline that is better balanced and can defend.
More speed and attacking potential.
(b) Except for K. Sims, same pack as last year with Lawrie and Leilua both a year older and with some FG game time under their belt. If they continue to improve this pack has the potential of being the most potent in the comp.
(c) Widdop at fullback is a much better option than Dufty.
I love watching Dufty streak away for tries as much as anyone but he is a nightmare in defence and under the high ball.
Not worth the risk if you have a more reliable and experienced alternative.
(d) Norman as the long term 5/8 given Widdop's imminent departure. We lose nothing if we manage to recruit him and could form a potent combination with Hunt.
Hunt is 2 classes above Moses and Norman will be delighted to pair up with a better halfback partner.

Exactly. That is when we would need Benny Hunt out there incase a match winning field goal is required :flushed:

I don't think SGI would pay 800k or even half of that in his first year for a first grade back to be selected on the bench.

I'd like to see all 3 haves on the field for the whole game. Norman could be selected at 1, 4, 6, or 7. Widdop could be selected at 1 or 6 but I don't think it wise - for defensive reasons - to select Hunt at 9. Maybe Hunt could jump into dummy half on occasions - when the full width of the field is available - to feed Widdop, Norman and Pearson to score a well deserved try.

Watching Dufty under the high ball I doubt genius had him training to take high kicks at all
