Corey Norman??

1. Widdop
2. Pearson
3. Lomax
4. Mann
5. Pereira
6. Norman
7. Hunt
8.Graham (c)
9. McInnes (vc)
10. Vaughan
11. T. Sims
12. Frizzell
13. JDB
14. K.Sims
15. Lawrie
16. Leilua
17. Robson
* Norman is a specialist 5/8 playing with a specialist half back. Playing with Moses diluted his effectiveness where as Hunt is a cut above..
* Graham captain - in the twilight of his career but at least will lead with passion and intensity. The other forwards will follow him into battle. Should play longer minutes than he did in 2018 for that reason.
McInnes to lead the team while Graham is having a spell. Future fulltime captain.
* Widdop to fullback during his last year with the club. Should never have been appointed captain but could be great at fullback for us. Better defender than Dufty, better under the high ball - can chime into the backline like a second 5/8 that would be unpredictable and destructive for opposing teams..
* Centre pairing of Lomax and Mann may take a while to gel but has a lot more potential than Aitkin/Lafai. Defensively superior also.
* Pereira is rock sold and is dependable if not brilliant.
Pearson has a lot of toe although untried at this level.
* Leilua off the bench as a game breaker
* Lawrie stepped up in 2018 and should be part of the prop rotation.
Korbin Simms is no slouch and should add plenty to the prop rotation also.
Finally Robson has a similar traits to Cook. Very quick from Fake and can do some serious damage when opposition forwards are tiring.
Conclusions
(a) Backline that is better balanced and can defend.
More speed and attacking potential.
(b) Except for K. Sims, same pack as last year with Lawrie and Leilua both a year older and with some FG game time under their belt. If they continue to improve this pack has the potential of being the most potent in the comp.
(c) Widdop at fullback is a much better option than Dufty.
I love watching Dufty streak away for tries as much as anyone but he is a nightmare in defence and under the high ball.
Not worth the risk if you have a more reliable and experienced alternative.
(d) Norman as the long term 5/8 given Widdop's imminent departure. We lose nothing if we manage to recruit him and could form a potent combination with Hunt.
Hunt is 2 classes above Moses and Norman will be delighted to pair up with a better halfback partner.
MATE.... Big post, I’d be very happy with that team.
Great picking Dennis.
Fingers crossed.

If Widdop does go in 2020 we still have young Sailor coming through I think he is a better proposition for 5/8 than Norman given they will be two years older ( read, Norman over the hill and sailor ready to roar)

Out of curiosity, what would you consider to be a proportional downgrade?

I wouldn’t have thought the word “downgrade” would’ve precluded such a thing from existing,

Simple English really.

You really must get a dictionary for Xmas.

It’s a genuine question.. you’ve said he’d be a disproportionate downgrade, what kind of downgrade would you consider proportionate?

No need to start throwing out insults pigeon.. Do you swear at people who ask how your day was?

F*ck no, Avis.

Do you understand what a paradox is?

That dictionary would help you enormously.

Stop deflecting and answer the question.

You bitch and moan about a lack of decent conversation on here, but spend half your time attempting English lessons..

(For your records, an proportional downgrade would involve taking Norman for Widdop if that allowed us use any savings in the five eigth position to buy an experienced outside back, thereby offsetting one loss with a gain and by this strengthening the overall team)

I await your next “Inglish wif Jimmy” lesson..

I have often thought the word “if” is the most powerful in the English vernacular.

Personally, I go nuts for either Samboy BBQ or CC’s Nacho Cheese flavoured chips :fries:

Preferably with a James Boag’s Red Ale XXX.

You are correct in saying that Sailor is a potential first grader in about two years time however, there is a few big ifs associated with this:
  • If he progress the way we hope.
  • If he actually remains at the Dragons
Unfortunately we are dealing with the here and now and I doubt very much that Sailor would be anywhere near the level of ability that Norman has now and possibly will have in two years time.

My suggestion is that we deal ont in 'if' or gameble with 'hopes'. The recruitment of Norman now means we can use his versatility across the positions of 1, 4, 6 and 7 if required. So if as you say Sailor turns out to be of superior quality to Norman in two years time, there are pleanty of opportunities to slot him in elsewhere.

Norman's salary will be subsidises by the Eels for the 2019 season and Widdops salary will cover his salary from 2020 on. Given we had a reported 500k plus to sign Hayne, and given that it is possible if Mann moves to Newcastle, we should have event more cap up our sleeves it would be silly not to take this opportunity to sign Norman and maybe one other first grader for the 2019 season.

Other than Tassie itself, perhaps Dan Murphy’s can help
Why dont Tassie do the original Cascade Pale Ale in a green can at 5.0% like I used to drink in the late 80's and 90's as a youngster. I went down to the original brwery in 2004 and I think you could get it but they dropped it to 4.2% or similar and was not the same taste.
The Cascade Premium Lager was a poorer cousin IMO
Anyway back to Corey Norman.
I think all these opinions about him with us and what we he will do in 2019 are just so far off the mark as to it may not even happen at all in 2020 or 2025. I am of the opinion ATM that he stays at Parra and if by chance he came it would be for 2020 at the earliest. Media reporting and others speaking has convinced me more than it would be Moses to go.from Parra and they keep Norman, cant afford to lose both... Wait and see I suppose

Cascade is mouthwash compared to a “Jimmy”.
