We should be in Widdop’s. ear to come home
I wonder how much Norman is getting paid
I think Norman 800k and Hunt 900k. But all will change and there is a good chance some will walk because new contracts will have to be signed to reflect the revised salaries.

Tru,
thats a lot of coin for someone that hadnt hit any heights but was still in potential mode .. Another fine mess supercoach got us in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes mate. And some complained about Widdop. A player who put in 100% every game.
I dont dislike Norman, but I see him as a "luxury" player. He gets involved when we dominate with some highlight reels. Goes missing way too often for me.

But MIllward is doing a fine job
Overs for Norman and Hunt
Can't keep Frizell
Keeps Aitken and Lafai long term
Can't keep Garrek when we really needed outside backs

And don’t forget Possm, he went hard to sign Jarrod Hayne, but we were saved that disaster by a sexual assault allegation on a muff.
Whether it’s Millward or McUseless calling the recruitment shots.....it stinks of desperation, panic buying & a failure to identity and properly develop.
Apart from that, they are both good blokes and enjoy a beer.....FMD!

Millward isn't responsible for the dire form of the players! When he signed Hunt he signed one of the best halfbacks in the game, not his fault that Hunt, Norman forgot how to play football. And on Frizzell, what do you want him to do!? He offered him good money but Frizzell accepted the same deal at another club because he wanted to play in a different Jersey!
How is that Millwards fault?
Please explain how Millward should have kept Frizzell!

Pointless Crush. Let him go on his rant. I've already asked him previously what he would do differently as recruitment manager if he found himself in the exact same position. Met with silence. Although I can imagine the outlandish response I would get if he did decide to answer - "I'd sign this player, and I'd sign this player and I'd get like for like etc". No regards to money or ability to attract a player to the club. This stuff can just "happen" apparently.

He just likes to blame Millward no matter what is said. It's not going to change.

Tru,
It all comes down to the fact that supercoach "demands" the players he wants and then with his inability to coach turns them all into park footballers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as ive said before a good coach has a game plan to suit his players strengths and abilities , we have the absolute opposite scenario where the players have to dumb it down to levels they cant handle

Correct.

Norman reportedly accepted a $250,000 payout from the Eels, with the Dragons to pay $500,000 of his 2019 salary and then pay him about $1.6 million in the following two seasons.

Corey Norman is a perfect example of the over inflated value of the modern day player. For that sort of coin, he'd want to be in the top three 5/8's in the game but they hit the panic button when Widdop announced he was leaving and here we are. I think, on his day he can dominate a game, but we won't see that with Mcclueless driving the bus.

Patience is a virtue is what the saying goes and (Wayward) Millward should have taken his time before signing Norman rather than panicking to sign him to replace Widdop. The unfortunate thing for us is that a player that in my opinion could have excelled in the 5/8th role to replace Widdop was Clune but he wasn't contracted to play firsts until this year and if he was then possibly Norman might not have been signed. Anyway, we have got Norman and it is up to the coach to get him to perform week in and week out when the games start again.

Most high paid players tend to slacken off as they know they will be paid win, lose or draw. Payments on a performance basis has a lot of merit and I think should be adopted in the new market the guys will be confronted with in the future. Yeah right said Clint Newton!

dragon dave,
I reckon you will find that supercoach panicked and made it a priority to get norman the year before widdop left us.. remember the great game plan of widdop to fullback So norman could run the team .... supercoach panicked as norman was the only 'star" 5/8 not wanted for 2019 maybe there was a hint that widdop was going to walk immediately ???? Bottom line there was no reason to rush and buy norman at the dollars he was on at the eels

Most top heavy guys in the Corporate world I imagine are paid on a performance basis to go with the experience they have gained to make the business operations a success. They generally have lucrative incentives and bonuses to go with their salaries if the business makes a sizeable profit. These guys are carefully selected in a majority of cases (I don't know whether our Kiwi friend Raelene Castle is one of those - who cares?).

Our administration guys, coach, staff and several of our players need to be paid on this basis and I suppose lots more players and coaches of other clubs need this system - make it all clubs hahaha!

If you remember when we called in Mullholland (2014) to decipher the salary cap mess that we had gotten into.
I thought Mullholland did a good job to unravel the mess financially and got us back on the straight and narrow.
Then one day, the cooperation with one of the best recruitment guys in the business just ended abruptly and Millward was handed the job.
Now that was another decision that the club made to accommodate the inner sanctum and give jobs to the old boys.
I find it interesting that Millward and Mary have continued to recruit lots of senior players including Graham who provides passion and experience but little else.
Hunt was supposed to solve our halfback problem and he and Widdop were supposed to be the cat's meow in terms of halves combinations.
The results suggest otherwise.
Widdop decided to bail and Norman was signed on the rebound to form a mediocre, underperforming partnership with Hunt that has catapulted us to the bottom of the table.
Now Frizzell has also decided to bail.
So what conclusion can you draw from all that?
Well, Peter Mullholland left us to go back to the Raiders and has successfully recruited a number of key players resulting in Canberra contesting the GF in 2019.
Millward has been part of the old boys club that has our great club plumbing the depths of despair in terms of results..
So even though you can't blame Millward totally, he is part of a corrupt set up and must take a big part of the responsibility.
We will never attract top level players under the current set up.
