No different to any other large business that has stood down staff with no pay, Myer, Virgin, Qantas etc I bet the Execs of those companies didn’t take a hit.

Why should NRL be any different ? why should NRL player contracts be more valuable than any other worker ?
I'll take that bet mate!

Moreover, Senior Group Management Executives and the Board have increased their salary reductions from 30 per cent to 100 per cent until at least the end of this financial year, joining the Chairman and Group CEO in taking no pay.

Its normally true that the corporates don't take pay cuts and wipe out the middle managers or expensive staff. However, there's something about this virus recession.

Glad to see the only ones in the game who still have a full paying job are the media vultures with their daily articles about how we are going broke and how Todd Greenberg takes a limo to pick up milk from the corner shop.

Their egos probably tell them they're providing an essential service to us.

Not sure why next years cap would be hit if all returns back to normal. Maybe trying to give clubs a bit more slush to cover their losses this year? The highlighted bit made me laugh. Yes Clint giving clubs more of the games money to blow on ex players and assistant coaches is a great idea lol

The NRL players union concedes that the ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic could change the game - and with it next year's $9.9 million salary cap.

But, as Rugby League Players Association official Clint Newton points out for his members, it hasn't impacted next year's broadcast deal yet.

Newton's comments come after suggestions next year's cap could be reduced by 40 per cent to just $5.9 million.

The RLPA and league office are on Wednesday expected to finalise a pay deal for the players should the COVID-19 wipe out the rest of the season.

"The most important thing is that right now, the broadcast agreement is secured. Next year hasn't been impacted at the moment by the coronavirus," Newton said.

"Ultimately we know around 65 per cent of the game's revenue is generated through broadcast, which equates to about $350 million or whatever."

However Newton admits the virus' impact could result in other consequences.

"We know that there might be a downturn in other additional revenues through sponsorship and whatnot," he said.

"As far as the whole amount is concerned, we just need to be able to have a good understanding of what's coming in and what is the players' share of that."

It's why the union is currently fighting for full access to the game's finances, in a bid to have a greater say in how the funds are allocated.

Newton suggested some operational costs could be redistributed to clubland.

"They might be able to pick up a greater level of responsibility," he said.

"So therefore their funding might increase and the game might not have to hold as much at the centre. So that's all part of the process from here.

"I think we've got a really good opportunity to deconstruct their current model and look at how we might be able to better utilise some of the funds."

The tigers must be shitting themselves thinking about BJ being live on Fox League tonight.
The rest of the players in the league should as well. Having some brain dead meat head like him talk about players thoughts and concerns makes them all look bad

Why do fox keep talking about a 75% pay cut for players. They are being paid 5months full pay which equates to a real paycut of 59% for the year, and thats IF the game doesnt start up again this year.

And why the frick is the NRL spending tens of millions every year on player welfare and retirement funds. Shouldn't the players be putting away for a rainy day?

BJ should stick to running into people with a ball under his arm. If he has a problem with the way the retirement fund is set up he should be talking to Clint Newton who actually negotiated the players deal!

My understanding is that the players are taking a pay cut of 45% from now till October where the pay year finishes for the nrl. The players have received 100% over the past 5 months and will get ~55% the rest of the year (45% decrease). Which roughly equates to 75%. By having the nrl play games late into the year means broadcast funding will trickle into the 2021 pay year potentially affecting salary.

Players couldn’t be trusted to put money away for a rainy day and the rlpa had to of agreed with the current set up. Bj is completely out of his depth.

If the Tigers had any leadership from Pascoe you'd think they would step in and see what a bad idea that is.

That still doesnt equate to a 75% pay cut for the year or do you mean they are getting 75% of their pay ie a 25% cut, in which case the question still stands, why do Fox keep saying players are taking a 75% pay cut? And why are players whinging at Greenberg taking a 25% pay cut if that is the same as they are taking?
