Im embarrassed to be an NRL supporter at the moment. My big issue with sports starting early is that players get injured. Using medical resources when health professionals have more pressing matters to deal with is pretty selfish in my book. UFC have bought an island to get their sport going but I think its wrong for them to start up as well for the same reasons.

I personally think that’s an overreach...but the NRL are absolutely kidding themselves here.

What are they going to do when they come up against this type of criticism ramping up in the media as it inevitably will? There’s going to be an avalanche from the usual suspects (message this sends to kids on social distancing / tone deaf code / afl aren’t doing it/ comment from sponsors). The NRL have shown time and time again they have the backbone of a jellyfish, all they’ll do is eventually cave in anyway.

Problem is though Optus Sport don't have the provisions to actually broadcast. They just take the streams from other broadcasters for their current crop.

The NRL would be taking on a lot of additional responsibilities if they were to go with a partner that wasn't capable of actually producing content.

weren't the NRL talking about owning their own broadcasting at one stage ? Could be an opportunity as long as they don't f**k it up

Apparently listening to radio the NSW government today will announce that the Corona cases have jumped by 25% .....

I know he is beloved by LU, but the way Vlandys has shown his arse to Nine is shameful. Groveling to them like a sniveling school boy.

And the Nine claim about the game clashing with the opening games of the T20. Really? Is that comp going to even happen?

And if it did you think Afghanistan V Bangaledesh is going to outrate any game of NRL? Get f**ked.

That's why the game is setting up a digital arm. That's why the media are punching out this narrative how the league is wasting and mismanaging money particularly on this digital arm....they see it as a THREAT!!!! And this is great for rugby league.

If people stopped believing all the BS the media go on about destroying the credibility of John Grant etc and actually looked into these guys backgrounds they would realise just how capable these guys were. If the media truly cared about the game they would be attacking the clubs self interest and their constant undermining of HQ

John Grant has a very decorated career in IT turned his company into revenue of a billion dollars and won numerous awards in IT. He knows where technology is going.

As great as a player Thurston was he is not a commentator or analyst in any way shape or form. Same goes for Lockyer and Lewis. Johns isn’t to bad when he is just breaking down a play.

Look, I agree that he needs a lot of work and there are definitely a lot of 'inferior' ex-players who would probably be shit load better in front of a camera than JT. This is a flaw in Ch9's talent procurement strategy. Great ex-player retires, give them a job. Fittler, Johns, Lockyer, Slater, Thurston, etc It'll be no surprise when Smith gets picked up at the end of his career - although he'll probably offer quite a bit, if he's allowed too. Probably the best of them from an insight POV in Cronk was already in the Fox stable due to his missus.

However, the point was more about JT bringing standard tactical lingo used by all coaches and teams into his analysis, and being shutdown immediately by other folks on the Ch9 panel. And I have no doubt Ch9 tell their talent to keep it dumb and simple. Yes, it's a simple game, but their approach over the last 30 years has cemented the it's just 5 tackles and kick bullshit we keep hearing as cop out for the game. The game has evolved in the professional era but the tactical discussion on Ch9 hasn't one iota. American Football is simply 3 downs and a punt, but the analysis by all networks over in the USA makes it sound like chess. And since networks have gone deep down the tactical analysis route, the NFL has eclipsed baseball as the #1 sport in America. It enhances appreciation for the sport.

We always follow what happens in the USA, and rugby league is no different. The digital arm would be based on what is happening in US sports.

Here's what Major League Baseball's CEO said of their digital arm in February 2016:

That’s according to Bob Bowman, President and CEO of MLB Advanced Media, who spoke Thursday at Re/code‘s annual Code/Media conference at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, Calif. Bowman says that sports streaming still has a ways to go before it dethrones live sports on television, but that he thinks it’s the future.

“You just go where the people are,” Bowman explained. “If the consumers are on their mobile devices and that’s where they’re spending 90 percent of their connectivity on a mobile device, it’s not hard to figure out that’s where you gotta be.”

MLB’s media business is growing. Bowman said the company is doing between $1.2 billion and $1.3 billion in annual revenue, and between 75 percent and 80 percent of that business comes from selling baseball content. He wants the non-baseball revenue to jump to “billions and billions.”

If it gets worse in the next 7 weeks they'll just postpone the season further, as they say everything is fluid.
That has nothing to do with what I was talking about, some goose said the cases in NSW would jump 25% today. That would have been an increase of 693 cases based on what he said. If he meant new cases compared to new cases yesterday that increased from 39 yesterday to 49 today which is closer to 25% but is hardly alarming and the wording of his post wasn't new cases and was extremely misleading!

They are doing more tests and testing a wider range of people number. So the numbers won’t just drop to zero but they won’t get out of hand either
