No it wasn't, this is the media narrative to bring negativity to the game's leaders. In comparison to other big sports it was middle of the road. What's the old saying, you have to spend money to make money.

I never heard the media complain about how the game was under funded when Gallop was in charge.

10m of that 15m is for the websites of the clubs, and no ch9 doesn't have a point. They are trying to save themselves money by cost cutting at the NRL, that is not their place, they don't own the NRL. They have no right to ask the NRL for an explanation on where they will be cutting cost. Maybe NRL should ask the same of ch9? Ch9 is over stepping themselves here.

The game needs to move well away from Nine. The have always been a terrible broadcast partner but the way they have behaved this year is insulting. Hold on to the digital arm and move to Ten or Seven even if it means taking less money.

1. Why did there need to be cuts? The nrl made $70mill surplus over last two years Whilst giving out massive expenditure increases to the stakeholders
2. Nrl digital made $12million PROFIT last year, and you want to get rid of it?

Doing all of this in the public domain isn’t smart. What good does it do to have this in the media ?

If he has a longer term strategy, Marks isn’t doing it any favours by pissing off the NRL & PVL in the process. That may well come back to bite him.

As if the NRL is going to provide 9 with details of operational expenditure & proposed budget cuts….haha, so why bring that up in the papers ? It’s very obvious the audience he is playing to are the club bosses. So far, his only strategy seems to be a lame attempt to split opinions of the games HQ & clubs and pit them against each other. The ubiquitous “divide and conquer strategy”

Running through that logically its hard to see that being successful and hardly a clever covert strategy to snatch up the NRLs prime asset.

It seems more likely to provide a clear indicator to the NRL to head towards other options that exclude the 9 Entertainment Co altogether.
