The Daily Telegraph has learnt about 20 players will make the call on whether they will sign an amended waiver after hesitating to receive the flu shot this week.

It is understood among those who need to decide include Manly trio Dylan Walker, Marty Taupau and Addin Fonua-Blake, Canberra players Josh Papalii, Sia Soliola and Joe Tapine, Canterbury’s Sione Katoa and Gold Coast’s Bryce Cartwright.

Some intellectual heavyweights on that list

I think the govt has a good case here for protecting the NRL players and subsequently the rest of the communities' health and safety.

Its simple really.

Make all the players get vaccinated, then if they have flu like symptoms its more than likely the virus.

When the NRL starts again the players are being held to a different set of rules to the rest of the community therefore they should expect to be held to more stringent rules which includes the flu jab.

The waiver was putting people a risk and no doubt V'Landys worried about the Izzy situation applying to the NRL, hence the waiver, but ScoMo has taken that out of the equation now.

Reality is if they have any cold/flu symptoms they are going to be isolated and tested straight away, so shot or no shot the action is going to be the same. The most logical reasoning for requiring it is to prevent other flu types spreading through teams and having to stand everyone down whilst test results come through. the media will have a field day if that happened so I can see why reducing chances of catching the flu would be encouraged.

Forgive me if I’m over simplifying but they’re saying yes to one form of medicine and no to another, are they not?

That is over simplifying it lol. For some religious folks its the origins of vaccines, for some on ethical grounds its the animal testing or products that they develop them withf. Others believe the risk of taking is greater than the risk of not, others just have a deep mistrust of a $10billion a year arm of the medical industry and believe the research is tainted by the powers that be to keep the industry growing. Each to their own.

Get what you’re saying but all those concerns you’ve listed bar risk likely apply to the drugs they’ve taken in the past. Those painkillers or other medicinals they’ve said yes to in the past have been tested on animals for example. Does religious beliefs allow pain killers but not vaccinations? Risk is the only excuse I’ll buy. Naive as it is. I see you’re right though, I was over simplifying it lol.

Sorry but I've got no time for anti-vaxxers. Their claims are mostly full of manure. In Australia we had all but eliminated dreadful diseases like polio and whooping cough. However with the rise of the anti-vaxxers, it has seen these diseases make a comeback when they had all but been eradicated here. As my recently departed Mother said, get these people to have to look after an infant that has whooping cough. They will very quickly change their mind.

As to the NRL players, no jab, no play. If the whole comp grinds to a halt as the respective Governments won't allow games to be played because of the carry on of some 20 players, I hope all NRL players enjoy not getting any pay for the rest of the year as that will be the result. Nothing the RLPA would be able to do then.

I think they would probably argue that they choose to take the pain killers and that choice doesn't mean they are obliged to take other medicines.

I agree with what you are saying but let's not conflate 2 separate issues either.

"Anti-vaxxer" is a strong term for someone who doesn't want to get the flu shot but it is a term the media have run with for more clicks.

As far as I can tell there is no indication that these players aren't vaccinating their kids although I have my suspicions about Cartwright and his mrs.

Cartwrights missus is very open about being anti-vaccinations - She's "researched" it thoroughly...

Cartwright has been extremely vocal about not vaccinating their kids, in fact I would say 100% of their issues is about kids vaccinations.

Let's not pussy foot around, its anti-vaccination, there is no need to be "PC" about this.

Apparently she’s a fan of Winterstein’s missus who thinks the virus is a scam. A Plandemic she calls it. Thinks the nations of the world got together to hatch this virus plan for some reason. You know, these same nations that could agree on a climate strategy.

For some religious folks its the origins of vaccines , Each to their own.
That's a good one. I'm now picturing say, Mormons, engaging in deep thought about the origins of vaccines. Meanwhile they follow a religion with one of the most ridiculous origin stories devised by man.

Yes, that's Shanelle's concern. That the vaccine was tested on mice. She's heartbroken for the vaccine injured mice.

Others believe the risk of taking is greater than the risk of not
There's a name for those people - MORONS.

Others just have a deep mistrust of a $10billion a year arm of the medical industry and believe the research is tainted by the powers that be to keep the industry growing.
Yes, they also have a deep mistrust for EVERY SINGLE REPUTABLE SCIENTIST AND DOCTOR IN THE WORLD.

They are ALL lying; but Shanelle on Facebook? Now she's the one with the real answers!

Each to their own.
Nope. If someone says 2 + 2 = 5, you don't respond with "oh well, each to their own".

Again, that's pandering to MORONS.

In certain instances - the efficacy of vaccinations being one - there is a clear right and wrong.

And by fence sitting to not hurt anyone's feelings you're just rejecting science to appease morons.

The NRL should not be taking this position. They should insist that the morons vaccinate or find a different job for the next 6 months.

she's the nutcase that was furious with the Samoan government for vaccinating children during their measles outbreak. Being dumb and ignorant is one thing, but spewing out their lies and propaganda is really a form of terrorism.

Mormons are not against vaccinations and in fact fund global vaccination campaigns.
