Ok, I got it. Coronavirus was released by Kayo to drive subscription use and NRL have vaccine so NRL can drive up bargaining power for TV deal. V’landis, you Sheenius.

It’s so obvious to me now.

Yeah, but it is only The Knights. Not really worth it long term.
Newcastle will at least be shit for the next 2 years. (not trying to start shit, just speaking facts)
Stay safe bro

Anyone saying this doesn't know what it's means to be a Knights supporter.

I'll be keeping safe though. You do likewise.

Amateur hour on the NRL website.

Says "Breaking News" "LIVE" for the announcement.

Then says LIVE STREAM starting soon.

Then says wait starting in x minutes. Repeat that 4 times during which the same ad plays repeatedly.

Then reverts to LIVE STREAM starting soon.

Wash. Rinse. Spin. Repeat.

I dislike ScoMo but he is right not to overreact.

If we were rational about this only the people at high risk of complications would quarantine everybody else would go on with their levels.

some healthy people are gonna get smashed too.

What we are trying to avoid is overloading the health system. Do you want a doctor black tagging your nan because there isnt enough instruments to go around. People are gonna get normal illnesses and the like during this period too

If the healthcare system doesnt get overloaded it will be ok. Not great but ok.

I don't think I said anything about whether it's better or worse than the flu in terms of mortality but sure, lump me in.

I just read a piece in which CNN interviewed Olsterholm and it seems a lot more balanced than the panicked lines you've quoted: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/10/opinions/osterholm-coronavirus-interview-bergen/index.html

It's absolutely serious but Australia, to me, seems more well prepared and still has a relatively low number of cases.
Yes but the issue is, we are running about 4-8 weeks behind everyone else, see what it is like here in that timeframe. It is only just beginning here.

20% of the state. 1.6 million people.

There’s been 78 cases in NSW so far. In what f**king universe are the above numbers even close to feasible? This is fear mongering at its absolute worst.

Can a Royal get married or something to distract the media from their scare campaign.

It is the power of exponential growth.

Australian cases are currently 156 and growing at about 20% per day. If it continues growing at that speed (big IF) it will only take 2 months to reach about 20% of the total population.

This still seems conservative. I imagine once community transmission really starts, doubling per day is more likely in the absence of social distancing measures. And current cases and growth estimates are likely way under the actual figures.

Doubling a day gets the whole population in two weeks. That rate won't be sustained, and some people will be isolated enough that it won't get them, but without good social isolation we could hit 20% of the population by next week.

Which could kill about 70 000 people more than it should if we don't let it spread so fast. So that is a pretty big deal.

Fair play, looks like you were right.

I still see it as an overreaction in the case of Australia at the moment but better to shut things down for a month and nip this in the butt if possible.

I thought he/she would be more right than your no real affect claim, but I too was surprised how much more right.

This is escalating very fast as people realise how more immediate action is much better than later action. In fact, we are probably a week too late, but better now than next week.

Schools, cinemas etc are open for next week, but that will change soon too.
