Johnny Cash's version of Hurt is one of my favourite songs of all time.

I love Gary Jules version of Mad World. But Tears for Fears original is great, too.

And of course it's hard to forget the most famous cover of all-time, Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You.

Agreed with Johnny Cash version of Hurt is amazing.

Something for Kate - Rock the casbah, is pretty great too. Only heard a live version on their best of album though.

Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah beats all the covers.
Nothing can beat the original 'Eleanor Rigby' either.
Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower is the best one imo.

Johhny Cash and Bob Dylan have a cover of Dylan's 'Girl From the North Country'

The Dubliners do great versions of traditional Irish songs.

I love Apocalyptica's cello covers of Metallica. Especially Nothing Else Matters and The Unforgiven.

Also the Beatles' covers of Twist and Shout and Words of Love are great.

Others:
- 'You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive' Brad Paisley
- 'Way Down in the Hole' DoMaJe
- 'And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda' Ronnie Drew
- 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
- 'I See a Darkness', 'God's Gonna Cut You Down' Johhny Cash

Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" is far better than Leonard Cohen's cover of "Hallelujah" IMO.

As Johnny Cash is one of my favourite solo artists and NIN one of my favourite bands, I couldn't split both versions of "Hurt".

I love both versions equally.

Try the Revolting c**ks' version of Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?". The music video is a classic!

2 stand outs for mine

Jeff Buckley's live version of Hallelujah, but credit to Leonard Cohen for writing a brilliant song.

The best for mine is RATM version of Bob Dylan's Maggies Farm.

Some honourable mentions.

Nirvana's version of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World"

Siouxsie and the Banshee's version of Iggy Pop's "The Passenger"

Wendy O (Yeah Yeah Yeah's vocalist) and Trent Reznor's version of Led Zeppelin's "The Immigrant Song"

Boy George's version of Iggy Pop's "Funtime" - surprised? So was I when I saw it on Rage almost 20 years ago.

Tricky's version of Public Enemy's "Black Steel"

Marilyn Manson's version of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus"

Three cover versions that should not have been done, let alone thought of!! Time to get your buckets!!

William Shatner's version of Pulp's "Common People"

Tori Amos' version of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

Pat Boone's version of Metallica's "Enter Sandman"

Really? I think Shatner's version shits all over Pulp's, he speaks it with so much anger and hatred to the girl. He has committed many crimes to music (Rocket Man and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds to name two of them) but not Common People.

As far as bad covers go, Hillary Duff's version of My Generation. Also check out the Ukelele Orchestra version of Smell's Like Teen Spirit for the lols

I have no time for either version of "Common People". Jarvis Cocker is a pain in the arse, almost as much as Liam Gallagher.

Pulp's original of Common People is very close to being the greatest song of the entire 1990s, and while Shatner's version is a lot better than his normal musical output it can't help but pale in comparison to the glory of the original.

No mention of The Man in Black's version of the last nomination, mate?
