Get the f**k out of here.

I would imagine your top five favourite songs of all time to be as follows:-

Billy Ray Cyrus - "Achy Breaky Heart"

Bobby Goldsboro - "Honey"

Paper Lace - "Billy Don't Be A Hero"

Aqua - "Barbie Girl"

Racey - "Some Girls"

Throw in some Leif Garrett, Jamie Redfern, Liberace, James Blunt and Lou Bega and that would round out your top ten.

Meanwhile, stop tossing off to Marilyn's "Calling Your Name".

Willie nelson Faded Love and Stay A little longer (both by bob wills and hia Texas playboys) and If You've Got the money honey (I've got the time) by Lefty Frizell.

merle Haggards album if Bob Wills covers is amazing and so Is willie and asleep at the wheels one.

Dwight Yoakam' album of Buck Owens covers is also phenomenal!

But what Cash did to a (IMO) mundane song in "Hurt"...Genius.
I don't get the massive circle jerk over Cash's version of Hurt.

What exactly is genius about it? It's almost identical to Reznor's stripped down/acoustic versions of the original, just with Cash's voice singing the exact same melody over the top.

It's a good song, "Hallelujah".

Certainly agree. Hard to find a song with more emotion.

I wasn't saying 'Hallelujah' was the best cover ever, was just saying Cohen does 'Hallelujah' better than any of it's covers.

The music video is the main reason. Makes the song so much more powerful. Plus Cash's emotion in his voice adds so much to a lot of covers.
Reznor's own opinion on it sums it up.

P.S. you gonna actually contribute anything or just rubbish everyone else's opinions like you always do?

Slim Dusty- Somewhere Between (Merle Haggard) on Live At Wagga Wagga (1975)

Merle Haggard is my favorite and I grew up on Slim Dusty but I have a really hard time deciding on which version I like better. The slim version is a duet with Joy McKean

because it got heaps of air play around the time he died and all of a sudden everybody is a Johnny Cash fan. Same thing happned with Joe Strummers version of Redemption Song...

Personally I prefer NIN version of hurt. Not taking away from Cash's version though because it was great in its own right but something about how dark NINs version is why I like it better.

Though I think its rad that Cash wanted to cover a NIN song

Johnny Cash covered more than just a handful of songs. Here is the complete list.

http://www.coversproject.com/artist/johnny cash/

Also lists his own songs covered by other artists.

Looking through that list I found that there is only one cover version of probably my favourite Johnny Cash song "Rock Island Line".

It was done by some flaccid French mob by the name of Manu Negra in 1988 and deserves to be placed in the list of worst ever cover versions.
