Are you suggesting the police stage manage their arrests to do maximum possible damage in the media?

i was thinking people would come up with a conspiracy theory that they held off for a day to not ruin the launch

still can't believe people fell for that bogus email rumour about it supposedly going to happen right after the GF

Everyone's favourite androtop hag Bec Wilson and her effeminate friend stated on Sunrise this morning "there are more players to be implicated" and seem to indicate "bigger" players.

Pure speculation methinks.

I have to admit that that is what I was just thinking.

It's almot a year since Gallop said that the only thing that could bring this game to its knees was a betting scadal. If the NRL were smart they would ban obscure bets and everything would be sweet.

Sam Ayoub to plead not guilty to charges relating to betting scandal
Brad Walter
March 8, 2011 - 12:20PM

Leading player agent Sam Ayoub has indicated he will plead not guilty to a charges arising from the NRL betting scandal.

Ayoub and former player John Elias were last week charged with seeking to gain financial advantage by deception, while one of his clients Ryan Tandy is defending four counts of lying to a crime commission hearing.

The Herald revealed today that Ayoub allegedly had two bets totalling $900 on North Queensland to score first from a penalty goal in the round 25 match against the Bulldogs.

Elias allegedly placed bets totalling more than $5000 that included multiple bets on the outcome.

Police are investigating alleged links a number of other punters who backed the option have to Ayoub including rookie Parramatta halfback Brad Murray and two of the four people identified on CCTV footage released last Friday.

The bet did not come off after Cowboys hooker Anthony Watts, another Ayoub client, took a quick tap after a penalty was awarded against Tandy and Ty Williams scored.

Ayoub, who says he bets on the option regularly, told the NRL's Accredited Agents Committee he would be defending the charge.

The AAC held a phone hook up yesterday to discuss the issue and cleared Ayoub to continue representing players until the issue is resolved in court.

However, if he is found guilty Ayoub will face deregistration of his agents licence, as well as a possible jail sentence of up to 10 years.

The committee did say it views the charges very seriously and said if the charges laid against Ayoub are proven, that his ongoing accreditation would be reviewed.

"The rules under which the committee operates do confer a power to suspend, or cancel, an agent's accreditation," committee chairman Geoff Bellew SC said in a statement.

"And if an allegation that an accredited agent had obtained a financial advantage by deception were proven, it would obviously be a matter in respect of which the committee would call upon the agent to show cause why some action should not be taken in respect of his or her accreditation."

Bellew stressed the RLAPAS would stand by Ayoub as he fights to clear his name.

"The allegation against Mr Ayoub, at least at this stage, is just that - an allegation," Bellew continued.

"Moreover, the committee was informed that Mr Ayoub proposes to defend that allegation by entering a plea of not guilty.

"As is the case with each and every person who is charged with a criminal offence, Mr Ayoub is entitled to the benefit of a presumption of innocence.

"It is important, in those circumstances, to respect the legal process and to allow it to take its course. That is what the committee thought was appropriate in this instance.

"If, after that process is completed, Mr Ayoub is found guilty of any offence, the question of whether he should be called upon to show cause why action should not be taken in respect of his accreditation will obviously be revisited."

POLICE will allege that John Elias, the former first-grade player charged with trying to defraud a betting agency, entered TAB outlets four times wearing four different clothes two days before last August's suspicious game between the Cowboys and the Bulldogs.

Details have emerged for the first time of the specific bets police will claim were placed by Elias and player agent Sam Ayoub on the first scoring play to be a Cowboys penalty goal, the option that is at the centre of a NSW police investigation.

Ayoub, 49, who was also charged last Thursday in connection with the inquiry into suspicious betting on the round-24 match at Dairy Farmers Stadium, lodged two wagers worth a total of $900 at Cowboys Leagues Club on August 18 and 19, it will be claimed in court.

Police will allege Elias, 48, the former Newtown, Souths, Canterbury, Wests, Easts and Balmain player, placed a total of $5250 in bets during the course of less than five hours on the afternoon and early evening of August 19.

It will also be claimed in court that he entered TABs at Rozelle and Haberfield on four occasions, making minor outfit alterations such as changing his jacket between visits.

The first of his bets were placed at Rozelle at 2pm and totalled $3000, made up of six $500 wagers in five-leg multis. At 3.15pm and then 3.20pm, Elias is alleged to have placed bets of $100 each using an account over the phone.

Then at 3.21pm, it will be claimed, he walked into Haberfield TAB, putting on a $50 five-leg multi, including the Cowboys' first-pointscoring option. Police will allege Elias did not then have another bet for almost three hours before going back to Haberfield TAB to make further wagers at 6.01pm and 6.33pm.

On the first occasion there were two $500 bets placed in five-leg multis. The final two bets were valued at $500 each and were made straight out on the Cowboys to score first with a penalty goal.

Elias and Ayoub are due to have their matters heard at Downing Centre Local Court on April 7 and face a possible prison sentence if found guilty. Ayoub admits betting but denies any wrongdoing.

Bulldogs front-rower and Ayoub client Ryan Tandy pleaded not guilty last week to giving false evidence to NSW Crime Commission hearings on the betting plunge.

It is expected detectives from the Casino and Racing Investigation Unit will this week conclude questioning other punters captured in CCTV footage released to the public by police last week.

They include the Townsville bar owner Joel Solinas, a friend of Ayoub on Facebook, who was pictured putting on a bet at the city's Midtown Hotel TAB on August 20.

The Herald has been told NSW police plan to travel to Townsville to interview Solinas, who is the owner of popular Palmer Street nightspot Rhino Bar.

Another man to be interviewed is Anthony Serratore, a friend of Ayoub's son, Jai, and Parramatta halfback Brad Murray, also an Ayoub client. Serratore placed his wager at Beaconsfield TAB on August 20 while Murray, 20, has previously been shown on CCTV footage released by police betting on the option at a Flemington hotel on August 19.

It is understood police have yet to finish viewing and analysing electronic footage compiled in relation to betting on the Cowboys-Bulldogs game and, as such, have not ruled out any further charges being laid.

It is also yet to be determined whether police will prosecute the Ayoub and Elias matters or whether the Department of Public Prosecutions will elect to take over.

Bulldogs have sacked the scumbag. Thanks f**k for that!

http://www.bulldogs.com.au/default....bulldogs-terminate-the-contract-of-ryan-tandy

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Rugby League Club has terminated the contract of Ryan Tandy, effective immediately.

The Club made the decision to terminate the contract of employment of Mr Tandy following a show cause hearing before the Board on Wednesday 16 March 2011, which Mr Tandy attended with his lawyer.

“The purpose of the show cause hearing was to determine whether Mr Tandy had placed a bet in relation to the Bulldogs game against the Gold Coast Titans on 18 June 2010, in which he played for the Club,” Bulldogs Chief Executive Todd Greenberg said.

“Mr Tandy declined to answer the Club’s question concerning this issue, based on legal advice.

“The Club formed the view that it was untenable for Mr Tandy to remain employed by the Club, and continue to be paid his salary, in circumstances where he was refusing to provide information about a matter that is wholly within his knowledge and relates to duties which he expressly owes to the Club.

“It is important to note that the action taken by the Club today is distinct and separate from the serious criminal charges that Mr Tandy is facing.

“Mr Tandy is of course entitled to the presumption of innocence in relation to those charges.”

John Elias faces fresh charges in NRL betting scandal

From: The Daily Telegraph
March 23, 2011 5:11PM

RUGBY league identity John Elias has had further charges laid against him this afternoon relating to the NRL betting scandal.

The 48-year-old former Newtown, Wests, Canterbury, Easts, Balmain and Souths forward was arrested at Bankstown police station just after 2pm.

Elias was charged by NSW Police Casino and Racing Investigation Unit detectives with breaching bail (relating to contact made with a witness in the investigation), NSW Police said in a statement.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court tomorrow (March 24, 2011).

Elias was also today charged with two counts of use carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence. He was granted conditional bail on these charges to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on April 7, 2011.

The man was previously arrested by police on 3 March this year and charged with attempt to obtain financial ad advantage by deception.

Sacked Canterbury Bulldogs forward Ryan Tandy and player agent Sam Ayoub have also been charged over an alleged attempted betting sting on the Round 24 match between North Queensland Cowboys-Bulldogs NRL game on August 21 last year.

"Today’s arrest follows ongoing investigations by Strike Force Suburb detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Casino and Racing Investigation Unit," NSW Police said in a statement.
